Big impact for pets and the rescue community

There’s something special about a weekend trip to your local Bunnings. 

And from 17–19 April, Bunnings stores across the country are turning community spirit into real support for rescue pets through Stores for Paws. And it could not come at a more important time.

Right now, more pets are needing support, as PetRescue data shows that pet adoption rates in Australia have dropped to their lowest point on record. 

Across the Stores for Paws weekend, Bunnings stores will host local rescue organisations and shelters, with fun (and free!) in-store activities including pet-themed kids' D.I.Y. workshops, plus giveaways and treats for four-legged visitors.

Supporting local rescue organisations

Local rescue organisations and shelters will be front and centre, cooking up your favourite sausage sizzle to raise awareness and funds for their adoption programs and services in local communities. You can even meet some of the adorable rescue pets in need of new homes. 

Funds raised through sausage sizzles help local rescue organisations and shelters provide the care needed to prepare pets for their new homes. This includes:

• Veterinary care and medical treatment
• Food and daily care
• Training and support to help pets thrive in their new homes

Caring for rescue pets comes at a significant cost. Across thousands of pets, that quickly adds up to hundreds of thousands of dollars every single day.

It’s a pawsome chance to connect with your local rescue community, learn more about adoption, and support pets and the people caring for them.

And yes, your dog is absolutely welcome to come along!

The hoodie that helps save lives

In a first for Bunnings, there’s also something very cute on offer.

Limited-edition dog hoodies are available in store for $10 in sizes small to XXLarge, with $2 from every hoodie donated to PetRescue. While stocks last!

These funds go towards PetRescue’s pet adoption platform, helping to connect even more rescue pets with new homes, and supporting initiatives that keep pets safe and out of the system wherever possible.

Since it began, Stores for Paws has raised more than $500,000 for animal welfare organisations and helped more than 700 pets find homes.
