About
Welcome new page likers! Just a little about us so you know who you're liking :)
Project Meow Geelong is a cat kindness initiative focused on building a desexing program for adult cats of low income homes across Geelong, launched after founder, Lisa Kearns began working in animal rescue and experienced the heartbreaking reality of 'kitten season' (Spring & Summer) in which a huge number of cats & kittens left homeless. These numbers grow every year.
Its time we stop servicing the problem and take positive action on fixing it! There are more cats needing homes than there are people wanting to adopt them. Its incredibly unfair and incredibly sad. Its clear a desexing program is needed and its crystal clear that people of Geelong want this. Geelong has a serious cat problem and we can start to reduce it by desexing, educating and addressing the serious nature of this rather than just leaving it up to animal welfare & rescue groups to deal with. Its a community problem we should all be working on together!
Since October 1st 2018, Project Meow Geelong has raised enough money to desex an incredible amount of owned cats and assist a huge number of kittens born by accidental pregnancies. Kittens who come to us go into care with a chosen organisation or rescue group until they are desexed and have all their essential vetwork, then are rehomed - kittens who may otherwise have ended up passed from family to family not desexed, and having kittens themselves, adding to the already massive problem.
Its great to have people reaching out to have their beloved felines desexed to prevent further litters! Desexing not only prevents accidental kittens it can prevent testicular, ovarian and mammary cancers in both male and female cats, not to mention greatly reduce illness and injury from fighting, disease, or being killed on our roads PLUS it greatly reduces the intake numbers at our local shelter & rescue groups. The health of a cat is greatly improved by desexing and owner stress is greatly reduced too - clients have reported their cat is more loving toward them, preferring to staying home, and spraying issues have been resolved... cats are much more relaxed and present in their owner's life!
We plan to desex adult cats every week and we need to raise ongoing funds to get through our waiting list. With your kind donation it is possible! Every cent goes to desexing a cat and nothing more.
If you are a local business that can assist in fundraising host a donation box, or an individual wanting to get involved please email projectmeow9@gmail.com
Desexing saves lives & reduces numbers in shelters.
