Before reading Gwen’s profile please note that we understand that she is underweight. Staff are doing all that they can to ensure that she is offered a variety of food to assist her in gaining weight. Our vet has indicated that there is no underlying medical issues she is just highly stressed in the shelter environment.
Being a Belgian Shepherd X, Gwen would benefit from an owner who has either owned Shepherds before or has an understanding of their breed. She’s not your ‘typical’ Belgian but at the same time does showcase typical shepherd behavioural traits.
About Me: Gwen was found tied to a tree & left in a reserve. Her previous owner never allowed us to gain valuable insight in to her behaviour or history.
If you're ready to open your heart and home to this wonderful canine, Gwen is waiting to meet you! She's ready to embark on a lifetime of adventures, love, and companionship. She really needs an owner who will be there for her.
Whether you lead a bustling and boisterous lifestyle or prefer the serenity of a quiet home, Gwen's adaptable nature will make her an ideal fit for your family.
Ideal Home: Gwen is a sensitive girl with an independent and agreeable nature. She's adaptable to various environments and routines, making her suitable for both busy households and quieter ones.
Gwen is all about balance. She enjoys both indoor cuddles and outdoor adventures. If you have a medium to large yard with high, secure fencing, she'll have a blast exploring and stretching her legs safely.
Family: She's open to meet kids aged 8 years and up. Reason for this is that she loves to give cuddles, she’ll gently raise her front legs on to your chest & nuzzle into you. This may be a bit too much for smaller kids.
Gwen is also suitable for part-time workers.
Furry Friends: Unfortunately Gwen didn't receive the socialisation training she needed during her crucial puppy stages. For this reason she is best to be the only dog in the household.
Gwen may take a little time to calm down after encountering another dog, with proper training and guidance, she can learn to navigate these situations with ease.
Gwen's past experiences have shown that she's not suitable to be rehomed with cats or pocket pets.
Work Hard: This smart girl is food-motivated and a quick learner. She'll benefit from some leash training to curb her pulling and zigzagging tendencies. At home or professional one-on-one training sessions may help her reach her full potential.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play Hard: Gwen isn't particularly interested in toys; she prefers human interaction & affection. She knows how to sit and adores tummy scratches and pats all over. Gwen's energy levels are in the medium to high range. She'll thrive with daily exercise and walks lasting between 30 to 60 minutes.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
Adoption details
Please remember that the pets we have available sometimes come to us with no history, so we do our very best to get to know them while they are here and to match them to your home. Sometimes animals behave differently outside of the shelter environment, so please do keep in touch after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
