Louie is an affectionate, chill and loyal dog. He wants nothing more than to be close to his people. He came into care very skinny - he is clearly so grateful to be getting fed regularly, have a comfy bed, and humans who give him attention.
Louie knows his basic commands such as sit, stay and out and responds well to correction - he just wants to please. He has learned to walk on a halti lead and is happy just to stick by your side. As with any dog and particularly with large dogs, it’s important that his adopters continue his training and maintain firm boundaries so he will continue to be the best boy he can be.
Louie has good doggy manners with dogs of all sizes - he likes to engage in play with other dogs but will also respect boundaries if the other dog has had enough. He would love a doggy companion, although he might be ok as the only dog in the household too as long as his humans are around most of the time - he does get separation anxiety if left without any company. For this reason, 6 foot fencing is required for this boy to keep him safe.
He is currently living with a 1 year old toddler and has been nothing but gentle with her, and also appears to be fine with cats he has met.
Louie has a deep bark that he uses to alert if someone is there, but he doesn’t bark incessantly: he certainly makes a good deterrent for any would-be intruders.
Louie is overall an easy, gentle and loving dog who really deserves so much better than what he has had in the past. He so desperately wants to be part of the pack and will slot nicely into most homes provided he is included in daily family life and given basic care/attention - he definitely needs to be an 'inside/outside' dog as he just wants to be close to his people. In return his adopters will get a loyal and loving companion for life.
Louie is $350 to adopt and comes desexed, microchipped, C5 vaccinated, heartworm tested (negative), and given flea/tick/worm prevention.
