About Penny
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Pippa
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Fox Terrier x Chihuahua
General breed traits:
Fox Terrier - originally bred to flush foxes out of their lair the Fox Terrier is now a companion dog. They are highly intelligent and energetic and do best with active owners - they are also known to be independent and somewhat stubborn. Affectionate with family they can be a little wary of strangers and unknown dogs so early socialisation is a must. Fox Terriers are easy to train and need plenty of mental stimulation; they also have a high prey drive so cannot live with small pets.
Chihuahuas love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They love their family but can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and wilful but will learn if you make it fun.

ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, outgoing, obedient, quiet, sweet and playful! She's a clever girl with a ton of love to give to her new family.
FAVOURITE THINGS: She loves to chase her toy rope and play with the other dogs in her foster home, and loves to be around her people and receive as much affection as she can get. She also likes to collect her foster carers' slippers and just carry them around the house!
ENDEARING FEATURES: She's very affectionate and has a beautiful personality. She's also very intelligent and crafty at times! She knows when it's dinner time and will follow you around until you start preparing it then run to her mat and sit and wait excitedly.
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other dogs after gentle introduction and loves to play with them. She gets on well with cats and plays with the cats in her foster home, so she could live with a dog-savvy feline, again after gentle, closely supervised introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Penny walks quietly on her lead and is housed trained but may have some accidents while she gets used to her new home. Routine and reminders to go outside will be needed in the initial weeks after she's adopted. She will bark when someone is at the door, and her command training is coming along nicely but will need further work from her new owner. She's very intelligent so training should be fairly easy for her.
ESSENTIALS for Penny:
** An active, loving, calm, dog experienced home where someone is there for most of the day, and can take her with them when they go out.
**If she is to be an only dog in her new family she will also need regular playdates with other dogs to keep her happy.
**Good daily exercise and mental stimulation. She is quite high energy so will need an active home.
**A fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff and explore.
**Penny needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family.
Penny would love to live with a doggy friend, after gentle introduction. She could also live with respectful children over 8yrs of age.
