Lafayette is an absolute legend! He’s the ultimate low maintenance dog who just wants to hang out and chill. He loves a walk or to have a run outside and a game but he’s just as happy to follow you round and kick back while you do your thing, he isn’t needy so he’s easy company and an absolute pleasure to have around.
He does get excited and jump a bit if you’ve been out and he missed you, especially when the kids get home from school but he’s a gentle jumper, he doesn’t put all his weight on you and push you over. He loves car rides, sits nicely, takes in the scenery and doesn’t get car sick which is a win if you’ve ever experienced the opposite.
This guy is the ultimate couch companion and absolutely loves to snuggle up next to you on the couch, he is just a big floppy puppy after all.
Lafayette walks nicely with his halti on but can pull without it.
He has great recall, knows how to sit and responds well to being told no. He responds well to firm boundaries and will need to be with people who can confidently reinforce his training and make sure he continues to respect commands.
Lafayette is great with other dogs and plays nicely with both males and females, he has shown no aggression around food, eats in the same room at the same time as his foster brother and you can take a bone off him without issue.
He has seen cats but seemed more wary than interested, I would still recommend a careful introduction just in case.
He has met horses through a fence and seemed to really like them.
Lafayettes current foster property backs onto a walking track and he can be reactive at the fence although this doesn’t seem to be an issue when the fence isn’t involved. He is a great guard dog with a deep bark but he doesn’t bark often at all.
Lafayette absolutely loves children of all ages but due to his size might be a bit much for really small children. He’s huge fan of the trampoline and will play on it for hours with his foster brothers both fury and human.
Lafayette isn’t destructive apart from pulling the occasional stick out of the kindling pile by the fire and chewing it up or the occasional roll of sticky tape, he has cheap taste so that’s a plus!
He hasn’t had much experience being left alone for extended periods but is fine when left home with foster brother dog and he’d potentially be ok with being home alone if he was adequately exercised beforehand.
