About Dougal Van Winkle
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:

Darling Dougal is looking for his perfect match. A candidate for velcro dog of the year, Dougal loves hard on his person or people and enjoys nothing better than cuddles and play time with them. Dougal has found life in a busy home a little overwhelming and is looking for a calm adult-only home to call his own. While he prefers a mellow environment, Dougal can be as excitable as his age suggests, and enjoys a chance to get out and smell the roses, as well as space to zoom and play at home. While he loves being with his people more than anything, Dougal is okay being left at home inside for short periods while humans do their thing.
Dougal has attended puppy playschool and has some basic training. He is housetrained, although needs regular reminders while he is settling into a new environment. While he is very responsive to his carers, Dougal can at times be overwhelmed by his anxiety and reacts to protect himself or his toys when around new people. Dougal is also reactive to neighbourhood noises and home and reactive when out and about, barking at people and other dogs. All of these behaviours are signs of anxiety and lack of confidence. Dougal currently receives medication to help him manage his stress. His behaviour and his wellbeing would also benefit hugely from ongoing training, games and toys that help him improve his problem-solving skills and confidence.
Dougal will do best in an adult-only home with people who are around more often than not. He will do well in a home with a garden where he has a chance to explore and feel the grass under his paws, and a safe space – such as a crate – where Dougal can decompress when the world is a little too much. He has previously lived with cats and could do so again with the right confident feline companion. People who are able to help Dougal reduce his anxiety through regular routines, exercise, training and engagement will make this little fellow happy indeed. Dougal will repay this support with his adoration and fun-loving spirit. If Dougal sounds like your kind of dog, submit an adoption application today.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. Unfortunately we usually will not have time to reply to enquiries in more detail and will give priority to completed applications over enquiries. Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
We look forward to receiving your application.
