About Sheba
💜 Meet Shy Sheba 💜
HOUSEHOLD- Are you someone who doesn’t like going out much? Someone who would rather stay home with their dog? Someone with plenty of time to spare?
Then Sheba is the girl for you 💕
We have had Sheba as part of our SoCares family since February this year and she is now ready to find her forever person.
Sheba used to be super reserved when she arrived. When you would approach her kennel she would literally run away and hide under her bed and want nothing to do with you.
Since then its been daily reassurance for her and calm words to help her know everything is ok and no one is going to hurt her.
Even though Sheba knows certain staff members very well, she still takes a few seconds to process if she is going to run away or run towards you. This behaviour is mainly when she is in her kennel but once she is out walking, that fear and worry doesn’t seem as important.
We would like Sheba to be in a home with a single person or couple with no children so she can get the one on one time she needs and build up trust. A multi family home would probably be too much for her.
ON-GOING TRAINING- With Sheba it’s a case of slow and steady and consistency. Sheba needs to build confidence in a variety of settings and her new owner will need to be understanding of this. It’s very easy to tell when Sheba isn’t comfortable. She lowers her body down and crawls.
With Sheba everything she does is fear based, she has never shown us any aggression. We are unsure why Sheba is the way she is, but clearly something traumatic has happened to her in her previous home.
Sheba does already know how to sit on command.
OTHER DOGS- Sheba will tolerate overly playful dogs to a point. She doesn’t mind a full on game with some dogs but does get bossy when they take the game too far. She likes to wear the pants!
Sheba can be around all dogs on a lose lead and would be better suited to dogs with a similar personality to hers or dogs who know when to call the game quits.
We would prefer Sheba be the only dog in her new home at the moment so she can build up that confidence she needs with no distractions.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Unfortunately we haven’t cat tested Sheba, but if you have a kitty and would like to adopt Sheba please let us know and we can test her for you.
CARE/GROOMING- Sheba has a thin coat and won’t require much maintenance. She has shown to be nervous when it comes to nail trims so it might be best for a vet or a groomer to trim her nails if you’re not confident.
EXERCISE- For now we think it’s best for Sheba to stay inside her new home and yard until she decompresses. Sheba has been with us for 7 months and has become used to the same people and same routine every day. It is going to take her time to readjust and taking her outside into a big open space straight away might be too over stimulating for her in the first few weeks.
NUTRITION- Sheba isn’t a fussy eater. She has shown us no aggression with her food.
