Peabody is a special guy on the hunt for a family – a family with experience in caring for nervous dogs. If you’re looking for a gentle soul to brighten your home, then look no further.
About Me: Peabody was a stray & his owner never came forward for him so his past history is unknown to us. We believe he may be an active breed such as a Border Collie X however he could have a sprinkle of arctic in there such as Husky X. Either way we’re sure you’ll agree that he is a beautiful boy & really needs an owner who has owned dogs before.
He may appear a bit shy and timid at first, but once you get to know him, you'll see the playful and loving side that he hides beneath his initial reserve. He’s a sensitive boy who craves human affection and interaction.
Ideal Home: Peabody will thrive in calm and quiet environments, so if you're someone who enjoys a peaceful atmosphere, you could be a match made in doggy heaven.
To ensure he gets the "best of both worlds" lifestyle – free access to indoors and outdoors would be perfect. A medium to large yard with high, secure fencing would be ideal - it'll give him the space to explore and play safely.
Family: He is open to meeting kids who are 10 years and older. This is only because of his timidity. So if your kids have been around nervous dogs before but are younger than 10 years that’s ok – just give us a call to chat further.
He’d be suitable for part-time or shift workers as long as he has a cosy spot to relax while you're away.
Furry Friends: We are unsure how Peabody would go living with cats or pocket pets. His dog 2 dog assessment is still pending.
Work Hard: He’s a polite treat-taker, and is known for his gentle demeanour. He knows how to ‘sit’ and staff are working on adding more commands to his repertoire.
Peabody would benefit from post-adoption training, especially with a professional, who understands his nervous nature. He walks well on a lead, but again does lack confidence, he does need an owner who can provide him with support and reassurance.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play Hard: While he does show some interest in toys, he is more focused on taking in the world around him. He loves to sit & people watch.
He also loves the great outdoors, and is ready to be your active partner on hikes, walks, and outdoor adventures. His energy levels might start off low, but once he warms up to you, he'll surprise you with his enthusiasm for life.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
Adoption details
Please remember that the pets we have available sometimes come to us with no history, so we do our very best to get to know them while they are here and to match them to your home. Sometimes animals behave differently outside of the shelter environment, so please do keep in touch after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
