About Alaska
💜 Meet Alaska 💜
HOUSEHOLD- It is not often we get the chance to welcome a Husky into our SoCares family. We are very excited to introduce beautiful Alaska to you.
Huskies do have certain behavioural traits that aren’t for everyone. We are looking for a home for Alaska with someone who has breed experience for this reason.
Alaska is quite the jumper so her new home must have solid 6 foot or higher fencing. At the moment she has shown us her enjoyment for jumping into our lap, jumping onto the office chair and then jumping onto the office desk.
This girl certainly has a very cheeky side and often shows it.
Alaska does occasionally howl when she is showing us that cheeky side and at times when she is left alone in her kennel.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Alaska is a very confident dog and knows exactly what she wants and when she wants it. If she wants to jump onto your lap she will do it without a second thought. This behaviour may be too much for smaller kids.
When Alaska first arrived at SoCares she appeared to be toilet trained. Unfortunately being in her kennel for extended periods of time she has since been toileting in her kennel. During her assessment Alaska spent quite some time in the office with staff and did not toilet once during that time. As soon as she was taken outside she toileted straight away. We believe with some regular outside time in a normal home environment, Alaska will resume her toilet training.
Alaska also knows how to sit and shake with both paws when asked.
ON LEAD- Alaska is great to walk on a lead for the most part unless you stop walking to have a chat with someone then she will show you that cheeky side to her again. She will start jumping around and pulling on the lead while barking to tell you to hurry up and keep walking. She is still quite easy to control when she is doing this.
PLAY/TOYS- Alaska absolutely loves toys! Plush toys or balls, she is ready to play!
Showing her cheeky side yet again, once she has a plush toy she likes to run away from you so you will chase after her to get the toy. There is no issues with taking the toy from her mouth, that is if she wants you to take it. Some times she wants to play tug o war with you instead.
Did we mention she was cheeky yet? 🤣
OTHER DOGS- Alaska used to live with another male husky the same age as her. When it comes to what she will tolerate from other dogs it varies. On a lose lead Alaska is happy to be around all dogs but some dogs she will let into her bubble and other dogs she won’t.
When she has been reintroduced to the dog she once lived with she was super excited and wanted to play straight away.
When she met another male dog she wasn’t as interested in playing, she was more interested in bossing him around and was quite dominant over him. Alaska was still playful with this dog but she was in charge.
When Alaska met a female dog she did seem to enjoy her company, but again showed some dominating behaviours.
Alaska would be fine to be in an only dog home or rehomed with another dog who isn’t dominant and one who is going to give her plenty of space.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Alaska has shown no interest in cats when she met them. We have introduced her to numerous cats and even though they were showing her their dislike of her, she couldn’t have cared less and gave them no attention.
CARE/GROOMING- Alaska will require regular brushing which is something she enjoys.
EXERCISE- Alaska will need plenty of exercise. It will also be vitally important to find suitable activities for her during the summer months as her breed can over heat quickly.
NUTRITION- Alaska is pretty fussy when it come to treats and her main meals. She also likes to graze on her food rather than eat it all at once.
