Urgent Foster to Adopt or Long-term Foster home needed.
Our hearts broke when we met 8-year-old Sierra, yet another dog who has been neglected, used, and abused, treated as a money-making machine, pumping litter after litter out. Now that she is older and can’t keep having pups, she is discarded and given away, they have no use for her anymore…
Sierra is a typical puppy farm, backyard breeding dog, she is terrified of the world and new people, she doesn’t know who to trust and would have rarely left her yard. When Sierra first meets new people, she will bark at them; but with the help of treats, she will approach and take them gently from your hand before running off again. Sierra doesn’t want to be touched right now, she is scared and confused and needs to take things extremely slow.
Sierra is looking for someone with an abundance of patience who is very understanding. Sierra’s new human needs to have plenty of experience with dogs and be able to read dog body language, if someone had experience with a previous puppy-farm dog it would be highly desirable… it is hard to explain what they are like until you have had one… they are simply broken, and over-time slowly need help being put back together. Sierra needs a quiet home with only 1 or 2 people, she is not suited to a home with children.
Puppy-farm dogs whilst untrusting and wary of humans, are usually almost always great with other dogs, Sierra is no exception to this. Sierra is much more confident when she has another dog around; with our assessment dog, she was happy to go for a walk and hang out, following him everywhere. Sierra was more comfortable around our volunteer when the other dog was near, following for treats and even tolerating a small pat.
Sierra would preferably have a large-breed dog brother in her new home, the other dog must be friendly with people so that they can show Sierra how great being loved can be and teach her to trust humans. Sierra will be very dependent on this other dog and will shadow their every move looking for guidance and support.
Sierra has not been tested with cats.
Sierra is clearly underweight, you can see every rib, her spine, and her hips, she is starving and quickly polished off every treat our volunteer had. Sierra will need plenty of small meals often to help her put on weight, we will be putting her onto LifeWise Turkey so that she can get to a healthy weight and then maintain it.
Sierra needs long-term rehabilitation, after years of neglect, it will take her some time to trust people and to learn she is safe.
Sierra is temporarily safe, but needs to be moved within 10 days, or she will end up in the pound. Sadly, we already have several dogs just like Sierra in our care with our experienced foster carers that can commit to long-term to dogs like Sierra, we simply have no-where for her to go. We need your help to share the word and to save her, she will not cope in the pound and will likely be euthanised if she ends up there.
Please, if you can help us fix this broken girl, help her learn to trust and love, to give her the life that every dog deserves, complete a foster or adoption application online via our website or email rescue@gsrv.com.au if you have previously put in an application.
We are looking for someone without children, with a male dog or no pets (no female dogs please), and who can commit to Sierra long-term whether that be as an adoptive home or as a foster carer. Please do not apply if you do not fit these criteria, we understand you may want to offer to help and appreciate it very much, but the little time we have to save Sierra needs to be focused on finding the right person to help her.

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
Puppies (2 months to 4 months) - $1000
Puppies (4 to 6 months) - $800
Adolescents (6 months to 1 year) - $700
Mature (1 year to 6 years) - $600
Senior (7 years plus) - $350
