About Mango
Mango 🥠- magnificent mature lady
*VET BILLS PAID FOR LIFE*
We have another gorgeous ginger lady and another more mature kitty who is available as a fee-supported adoption.
Mango has been in our care for a whopping 7 months now, or 221 days. She's been here while some 400 other cats have come and gone!
She's a grandmother many times over who originally came into care with several generations of her family who have all been adopted now. She always had the air of a tolerant but slightly exasperated matriarch who watched the antics of her kids and grandkids while just wishing they would all settle down for a minute.
Mango has unfortunately picked up FIV in her many years being left to breed and produce unwanted litters, however she's in good general health and should still have many years ahead of her to enjoy a peaceful retirement from reproducing.
She's a gentle girl who enjoys soft pats and affection but who is calm, quiet and not demanding of much at all.
She was underweight with poor coat condition and generally looked pretty rough when she came in but now her soft fluffy coat is just a delight and she's quite the plump lass.
Mango is friendly, but mostly content to chill out and watch the world around her. She can have bouts of playfulness every now and then, which is lovely to watch.
She does not like dogs who stick their nose in her business!
But if you have a dog who will ignore her that's fine and if they do get up in her face she isn't afraid to give them a smack on the nose.
Mango is tolerant of other cats and is used to living in a multi-cat situation; she isn't particularly likely to bond strongly to another cat (though it's possible) but she can live with them and happily keep to herself without excessive conflict.
She can also be the only cat in the home.
Mango is very self-sufficient and won't mind if you are out of the house a lot; but, she will also enjoy company when you're at home
Now we need to address the elephant in the room and it's Mango's face!
No, it's not a cleft palate and it's also not a skin cancer.
Mango had a condition called an eosinophilic granuloma. These are auto-immune mediated ulcers on the lips. Usually they are quite small and with treatment, will resolve without too much hassle.
Mango's had unfortunately been left untreated for years, causing it to essentially eat away at the flesh of her lip. When she came into care it was a painful open wound; it's healed now and is clean and smooth but that flesh could not grow back so she's left with her unusual face!
She can experience a puffiness and slight ulceration of her lower lip at times, which seems to be because of a slight difference/difficulty in how she gets food into her mouth and also because she licks her lower lip excessively.
She also has what appears to be scarring on her tongue, which may be related but we're not quite sure!
None of this stops her eating though!!
If you're keen to offer Mango a home but reluctant to take on any future medical bills (at the moment she's healthy and does not require any medications or special care) then fee-supported adoption is an option!
*Mango is looking for a strictly indoor only home due to her FIV status and also the heightened risk of her developing skin cancer in her lower lip because of its exposure*
