About Roger
PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT FLY OUR PETS IN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Roger
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: The 5 puppies were born in our care
BREED: Shar Pei x
Shar Pei Breed Traits:
Originally bred to guard, hunt, herd and fight the Shar Pei is now a companion dog. A calm, independent thinker, sometimes aloof he is a good watch dog and guard dog and devoted to his family. Early training is essential to counter his stubborn strong will and socialisation with humans and dogs absolutely must begin early. Due to his short nose he is prone to overheating so needs to be an inside dog.
********************************************************************************
ASSETS: Roger is a sweet, gentle puppy with a heart of gold. He is the most assertive of his litter but can be a bit shy around new people. Once he knows you he loves a pat.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Roger enjoys playing with his siblings, and they can be a bit energetic and rough together at times but it's a Shar Pei 'thing'. He loves to roll around and play with toys or have a good sniff in the garden. He is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where he plays for a while then settles down with his siblings or person for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Roger is a beautiful colour, loves the company of his carer and is always looking to have some fun.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, he will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introduction. He can be a bit assertive with other pups but is learning manners. While with a previous carer he lived with cats and although he is very curious and did try to chase he learned quickly that cats are in charge.
GENERAL INFO: Roger will bark to get attention. As he is still a puppy, and he will need training for pretty much everything. Housetraining is going very well and is almost mastered. Expect accidents while he's settling into his new home and routine! He'll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can mix with other dogs - imperative for Shar Peis - and this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized when fully grown - but there are no guarantees.
ESSENTIALS for Roger:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence
** daily walks/playtime to keep him happy and healthy
Roger will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium energy as an adult dog.
Roger could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 10 years of age who will play and interact with him appropriately but know when to give him space.
If Roger sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
