About Blue
Hi there, I'm Blue! A very handsome Blue Heeler X Pointer with a wee stumpy tail, looking for my forever home. I am a very gentle soul who loves people, and has a very playful and fun nature. I'm only a young boy at just 1 -Ÿ years old, so I still think I can fit on your lap for cuddles. When I'm not curled up on my bed enjoying the company of my foster family, I love going on walks, playing fetch and getting plenty of head scratches.I am a wonderful companion and will make a perfect addition to most families
PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM AND JUNK FOLDERS FOR YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO COMPLETE ONCE YOU HAVE SENT IN YOUR ENQUIRY.
FAVORITE THINGS
Blue's favorite things include long walks, playing fetch, any toy that squeaks, treats, and being around people. He is always eager to go for a walk and will happily jump in the back of the car, and travels super well. He loves a good game of tug of war, a run around the backyard and a chill afternoon in the sun. He will also find plenty of satisfaction out of a tennis ball he can chew on. Blue doesn't just wag his tail, he gets the whole body wriggle going!
INTERACTION WITH HUMANS
This gorgeous boy absolutely LOVES humans. He wants to be next to you constantly and always wants to be involved in the family. He tends to stick by your side wherever you go. When out for a walk he will seek pats from anywhere who will offer them. He has never displayed any aggressive behavior towards people while with his foster family, and despite being protective of the house/property and barking if a stranger enters the house, he is quick to settle once told it's okay.
We believe he will also be a great dog for those with children as long as they are kind and dog savvy
OBEDIENCE & TRAINING
Blue is a very obedient young boy and is easily trained using treats! He is definitely food driven! He knows the commands 'sit', 'drop' and 'on your bed' (even if he puts just his back legs on the bed). He is very eager to learn and would benefit from the mental stimulation of learning new tricks & commands. He can have a little selective hearing if he gets distracted he tends to not respond to your efforts to call him back.which will need additional work.
ANIMAL SOCIAL SKILLS
Blue's interaction with other dogs has been a little selective depending on size and temperament , he can display some dislike to other dogs on walks and would require slow introductions to other dogs.
He can become fixated and won't respond once he has his mind set on something... this is something he would require some training on.
When introduced to another female foster dog, he initially showed some dislike to her at first, however once settled they both walked on lead well together.
He is overall very social and most of the time just wants to play! He can be a little over enthusiastic and doesn't necessarily read cues off other dogs. This can lead to him being a little too boisterous. For this reason we seek an only dog home for Blue
FOOD
Blue LOVES food! Whether it is dry food, treats, bones, pigs ears, chicken or any crumb that's fallen on the floor - he wants it! This makes him a very easy dog to train, as he will do just about anything to get a reward.
He currently gets a generous scoop of dry in the morning and evening.
INDEPENDENCE
While Blue is very capable of being independent and spending time in the yard, he would much prefer to be in your company. He doesn't mind if he's right next to you, or just in the same room, as long as he can see you and be involved.
When left alone at home, he can bark at first, but settles quickly and is happy to lay on his sunbed.
BATHING & HYGIENE
Blue has been great with all bathing and grooming. He was happy to be washed at the local dog wash!
SLEEPING
Blue tends to bark overnight if outside, so will need to be allowed to sleep inside. In his current foster home, he sleeps in the laundry overnight and is happy to stay there until let out in the morning.
He has at times slept in the bedroom and settles easily, waking you up at about 7-8am for a toilet run.
EXERCISE
Blue has plenty of energy and would love as many walks as he can get! Plus a few games of fetch here and there are also very much appreciated (good luck getting the ball or rope back once he decides it's his!). He is very good on lead and doesn't strain on the collar unless he sees another dog.
INSIDE THE HOME
Blue is perfectly house trained and has not caused any damage to the house/yard (aside from the slip and sliding on the floor boards). He hasn't had any toileting accidents, and will always alert you if he needs to go outside by standing at the door. He is happy to stay on his bed or on the floor and hasn't attempted to jump on any furniture (unless trying to get on your lap for a pat).
THE PERFECT HOME
The perfect home for this gorgeous boy would be a family who have plenty of time to offer. He is definitely a dog that needs ample attention, love and comfort. He can be a little boisterous at times so may not be suitable for young very small children. An active family who can offer daily walks, lots of cuddles and a lifestyle that includes him would be ideal. Overall, this young man has been a perfect companion and has stolen the hearts of his foster family.
ADOPTION CRITERIA
A home with a large secure yard with plenty of shade and shelter and grass to run on
A home whose family loves the outdoor life and have the time and motivation to take him for a good walk daily and treat him as a part of the family
A home that can keep him stimulated while they are not at home
A home with children is great but as we stated earlier he can get excited and wag his entire body knocking little ones over so if children in residence we seek a home with mature dog savvy children
A home that will continue to work on his social skills with others
A home that will allow him to sleep inside
