Maple

Maple is a beautiful, sweet natured Kelpie x who is clever and loving.

Prior to coming into care Maple had no boundaries and very little training. In the past two weeks she has shown that she is intelligent, super keen to learn and please people. From pushing through doors to remaining outside even though the door is open, and everyone is inside. She was a very busy girl with little to no off switch. Now she sleeps in her crate with no issues and stays on her bed when inside. She has learnt sit, drop, wait, “look”, and “leave it.” She is food motivated which is a bonus for training, however, is still not quite sure what to do with toys or tugs. She is still working on loose lead walking - she likes to stay with her people, but if a smell catches her nose, she may pull to get to it. That being said, she is easily corrected and learning quickly.

Maple has a very expressive face with her radar ears and goofy lips, she melts everyone’s hearts that she meets. Although she can be bouncy, especially in the morning seeing her favourite people, she has been a complete angel when meeting others, even the elderly. She is doing so well learning to keep her feet on the ground, but still needs reminding sometimes. Therefore we suggest a home with older children (6+), just in case.

Maple is great with other dogs and although she has been cat tested, she will need slow intros to a dog savy calm cat. She is not tested with other animals but shows no interest in chasing birds at the park.

Maple would love an active companion, preferably with another dog. A place with a big secure yard and high fences would be ideal. Someone who will be committed to her ongoing training and can be patient with her typical adolescent cheekiness.
