About Dotty
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR PETS IN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Dotty
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance with her mum and 5 siblings
BREED: Kelpie x Heeler Mix
Breed Traits:
Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.
Australian Cattle Dog (Heelers) are affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Usually attach to one person and love to be close. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if not mentally and physically worked enough they will be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and will nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves if training is not implemented at a young age. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners

ASSETS: Affectionate, friendly, active, sweet and playful! Dotty loves to chew on shoes or trouser legs!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Dotty loves to chew her toys and enjoys wrestle time with her siblings. She loves her cuddles and is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down with her siblings or person for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Dotty and her siblings all have a beautiful, gentle nature.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introduction. She could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Dotty will bark to get attention and will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway but she still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while she's settling into her new home and routine! She'll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized or just under as mum is only 11kg but there are no guarantees.
ESSENTIALS for Dotty:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day; essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence
** continued appropriate positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
** daily walks/playtime to keep her happy and healthy
Dotty will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy as an adult dog.
Dotty could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 6 years of age who will play and interact with her appropriately but know when to give her space.
If Dotty sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
