About Minnie
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Minnie
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Wolfhound x Ridgeback x Bullmastiff
Breed Traits: Wolfhound: originally used as a war dog and for hunting, this adaptable breed is now a companion. One of the tallest breeds this hound needs plenty of room to run and thrive. Like most hounds he is affectionate with just about everyone including other dogs. He is intelligent so with the right incentives will train well but he does have a high prey drive due to being a chaser so small pets may be a no no in the home, he needs a well fenced yard and for safety in public onlead exercise is best. Once he is tired he loves to be a couch potato, but he may take up the whole couch!!
Rhodesian Ridgeback: smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers, Mischievous and strong willed so would need an experienced owner. They are sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. Their high prey drive precludes other animals unless raised together. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Bullmastiff: originally bred as a guard dog, this breed is affectionate with family but can be standoffish with strangers. Sensitive and loving to his clan he is a powerful and courageous guardian. They are independent thinkers so training and socialisation to people, places and other dogs should start young. Best as an inside dog he needs to be protected from overheating. They have low to medium energy requirements. He is a drooler and definitely not for novice owners.

ASSETS: Easy going, a little timid at first, affectionate, friendly, quiet, playful, confident and very sweet! Minnie has settled beautifully into foster care and is becoming more confident by the day.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Cuddles and naps are her very favourite thing, so much so that her foster carer calls her ‘Velcro Dog’! She also loves to run on the beach and play tug with the other dog in her foster home, as well as play chase and wrestle.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Minnie has a beautiful gentle nature and just wants to be with her people. She’s great company and is always happy to give hugs when needed!
OTHER ANIMALS: Minnie loves the company of other friendly dogs who will run and play chase with her but doesn’t like dogs who get in her face initially, so needs gentle introduction. She plays with the cat in her foster home and sometimes chases so could possibly live with a very dog-savvy inside only cat who will tolerate her attention, but will need gentle, supervised introductions to start with.
GENERAL INFO: Minnie is a little anxious at times and will flinch at loud noises and sudden movements. She needs some training on her lead as she’s eager to meet other dogs when out walking so pulls on the lead to be near them. Her housetraining is still a bit of a work in progress but she’s doing really well at present. She isn’t a fan of being left alone and will dig in pot plants and find things around her to take back to her bed and chew. She will bark if she hears unfamiliar noises. Minnie travels well in the car and is learning some commands at present. She’s doing great with this and is very obedient and eager to learn.
ESSENTIALS for Minnie
** A dog-experienced, loving home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take her out with them. She does live with a full time worker and another dog but does struggle some days, being without her person and may be destructive.
** In her previous home and in foster she has lived with another dog and could do so again dependent on meet. Preferably a young dog around her size.
** Minnie would thrive with training and classes where she can socialize and learn new things in a safe and controlled environment.
** Minnie will need daily exercise - a good walk once a day will keep her happy and healthy.
** Minnie needs a fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff and explore.
** Being a ‘Velcro Dog’, Minnie needs to be allowed inside the home or out as she chooses, to sleep inside at night (preferably on the bed!) and to be included as part of the family.
Minnie could go well with dog-savvy, gentle/calm children over 12 years of age who can read her signals, treat her gently and play and interact with her appropriately.
