HOUSEHOLD- Ruby is a spirited little lady in the prime of her life. At 8years young, this energetic girl is looking for a home that can support her curiosity for this world by including her in as many family activities as possible. She would be best suited to a more mature household with no small children under 12yrs of age due to her dislike of constant invasions of personal space. Further testing with small children will be conducted when/as the opportunity arrives.

ON-GOING TRAINING- Ruby’s basic manners are pretty good but when she is excited or feeling abit anxious she can jump up on peoples legs and if on lead, she will pull strongly to get to what she wants.

To help her improve her focus and manners we would be recommending on-going basic obedience and lead training. She does respond well to verbal commands (although she is yet to learn the meaning of many of them) but shows lots of potential.

ON LEAD- Ruby is very comfortable and confident when walking on lead. She has displayed both moments of gentle close walking and pulling strongly to get to what she wants. She is best walked on a chest harness rather than a collar and responds well on a long or short lead. With further training she will be a great walking companion for a variety of athletic abilities.

PLAY/TOYS- Ruby plays well with her toys when by herself but becomes easily distracted during playtime with a handler because she is more curious about exploring than playing. When excited or during stressful situations she will carry a toy in her mouth and we think she will show a truer version of her playful self once she is in a home environment. She has displayed no signs of guarding or being protective of her toys.

OTHER DOGS- Ruby displays some attitude when meeting other dogs. She does not bark at them or become reactive when passing by but when she does get to meet them she likes to be in control sniffing and setting the boundaries. She has high expectations from the other dog and if she feels that another dog is being rude or in her personal bubble she is not afraid to give a small warning nip, lip lift or growl to let them know. She has not taken it any further and has displayed a good variety of polite doggie manners knowing when to walk away, when to show fear and when to interact more heavily. She may be suitable for living with another canine companion but will require a meet and greet with any new canine companion to make sure that they get along well.

CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Ruby appears social towards cats giving them the respect and distance they deserve when they hiss at her. She enjoyed exploring our cattery and was more interested in attempting to get the cats food rather than interacting with the cats themselves.

CAR RIDES- Ruby was confident and comfortable riding in the car. She was keen to get in and allowed an easy attachment to a car harness settling in on the back seat ready for the ride. She was even more keen to get out and explore on arrival to a new destination so a good secure harness and clip are essential for this little lady.

CARE/GROOMING- Ruby has a short thicker coat and will require weekly brushing along with regular bathing, nail clipping and a general health check/vaccination with a vet clinic every 6-12mths.

NUTRITION/EXERCISE- Ruby has a decent amount of energy and will require a family that can provide her with regular daily runs/walks combined with daily play sessions in the backyard. Ruby is currently being fed on an adult based dry biscuit diet with a meat/tinned wet feed option for some extra flavour. Ruby eats well and has maintained her weight whilst in care.

Ruby is currently located at our Charmhaven Shelter and a small mixed breed lady. Her $450 adoption fee covers - microchipping, desexing, lifetime registration, current vaccination, flea and worming treatments.
