What a journey it has been for our superstar and longest ever resident, Levi. We’ve all watched him over the last 12 months go through so much and overcoming some of the most incredible hurdles to finally being an amazing and happy pet greyhound. He has scars covering his body, literally head to toe, and our vet agrees that all of his initial dog aggression was fear based from likely being mauled quite badly prior to ending up at the sanctuary.

Levi is looking for the most perfect forever home that will continue to support him and set him up for success. He needs a greyhound experienced home with preference to someone who understands dog behaviours well. Levi will need to remain on his medication, Fluoxetine, for the rest of his life (he may be weaned off in years to come with very careful veterinary guidance, but this is not recommended) just like a human with an anxiety disorder, he needs his medication to help balance out his brain chemicals so he can continue to be a happy and healthy doggo. He happily eats his tablets with his breakfast every morning.

He LOVES toys and playing games with his humans! Levi is quite a character and will happily steal anything he deems a treasure to go and hide it on his bed. He’s an avid roacher and surprisingly hasn’t shown any sleep startle at all, he adores having snuggles on the couch and ALL the belly rubs!! 😊 Levi follows me everywhere I go and is one of the most loyal and loving greyhounds I’ve ever met.
He arrived with very high resource guarding which we have now pretty much entirely resolved with proper management. When you need to retrieve something from him, we swap the item for another thing and he is no issue whatsoever. He has now lived in the house with anywhere from 2 to 6 other greyhounds at a time with perfect manners even around food bowls and beds. He truly is a superstar.

I’d like to make it 10000% clear that Levi has NEVER shown any aggression to a human, but this does not mean he doesn’t deserve a human that can understand his communication cues. He has learned to communicate very clearly and start at level 1 and not escalate straight away to 100. He will need someone that listens to him and helps nurture what he has learned here at the sanctuary to help him continue to become an amazing best friend for a very lucky human.

While Levi has been incredible with the other greyhounds at the sanctuary over the last few months, preference will be given to an only dog home, or a home with only one other greyhound that will match his personality and given plenty of time to get to know each other safely. We have NOT introduced him to other dog breeds or small dogs, so this is not recommended until he is entirely settled and a good line of communication has been developed between him and his new human.

We want nothing more than to set him up now to continue to be the fun loving, goofy character that he has become, so we will be incredibly careful with finding Levi the absolute perfect match. As always, there is no rush to rehome Levi, but we do need to start the search so we can continue our work with new rescue greyhounds that need us.

Levi’s personality is super goofy, playful, and bouncy – he’s actually quite a funny character! He’s pretty lazy and a daily leashed walk will be plenty of exercise for him with access to a yard. A home with a yard is necessary so he can have some freedom time on the grass for rollies and zoomies between walks.

NO DOG PARKS AT ALL – If you are looking for a greyhound that you can let offleash in public areas and take to dog parks, Levi is not the guy for you.
If you’re looking for a greyhound who is insanely loyal, will stick by your side through anything, give amazing couch cuddles and will make you laugh on the daily but needs a LOT OF TIME to get to know you to form a bond that nothing will break but isn’t going to be a social butterfly for many, many years, Levi is your guy.
