About Harley
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR PETS WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Harley
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance with his mum and 9 siblings as an owner surrender.
BREED: Labrador x Mastiff Mix
Breed Traits:
Labradors are bred as a companion and working (gun) dog - they are known as affectionate and loyal companions. Their good nature means they are friendly to family, children, other dogs and strangers and don't like being left alone for long periods. They are intelligent and easy to train - they love to please - they can be mouthy but have a low prey drive towards other species. Being a working breed they do require a good amount of exercise and brain stimulation. If not exercised sufficiently and food monitored they can become obese.
Mastiffs were originally bred for guarding, this breed is sensitive and loving with family but can be standoffish with strangers. They are independent thinkers so training and socialisation to people, places and other dogs should start young. Best as an inside dog he needs to be protected from overheating. They have low to medium energy requirements but can excel in various dog sports. He is a drooler and definitely not for novice owners.
********************************************************************************
ASSETS: Harley was the sleepiest chunky monkey pup when he arrived in foster care but is now affectionate, friendly, active, sweet and playful!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Harley loves attention and affection! He also enjoys playing with his siblings and his chew toys. He is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where he plays for a while then settles down with his siblings or person for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Harley has a beautiful loving nature which is very endearing to everyone he meets!
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy he will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introduction. He could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction. There are free range chickens at his foster home and he is comfortable around them.
GENERAL INFO: Harley will bark to get attention and will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway but he still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while he's settling into his new home and routine! He'll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. We expect these pups to be medium (or a bit bigger) sized when fully grown - but there are no guarantees.
ESSENTIALS for Harley:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence
** daily walks/playtime to keep him happy and healthy
Harley will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium energy as an adult dog.
Harley could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 6 years of age who will play and interact with him appropriately but know when to give him space.
If Harley sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
