About Broc
This distinguished gentleman goes by the name of Broc and he sure is a show stopper. Everywhere this boy goes, he gets noticed and he definitely enjoys all the pats and affection he draws in!
He came to us from a rural pound where he was dumped in the overnight cage and when his owner was contacted, they pretended not to know him. Nevertheless, this boy doesn’t let his sad history get in the way of being the perfect dog. He showers his foster carer and everyone he meets with endless love and cuddles. This boy doesn’t ask for much, but a couch with pats and cuddles is sure high on his list of wishes for a forever family.
Broc is very dog social. He played with many different dogs at the pound and is currently living with 4 other dogs of varying ages and sizes. He has attended a few flyball competitions as a loyal supporter for his foster siblings and has interacted well with all the dogs he has met. The only time a little old man grouch has shown, is when he is resting on the couch and a bouncy dog comes over to disturb his nap, but this is just a warning growl, nothing more. He will be fine as an only dog or with other friendly dogs in his forever home as long as someone is home more often than not. He doesn’t have separation anxiety, but he deserves a retirement filled with attention and love.
He has some medical needs that his new family should be aware of. He has “collie nose” which is presumed to be lupus. We have not had his nose biopsied as it hasn’t flared up while In care, but we put him on a short course of steroids on arrival to settle any symptoms. Any new owner should read up on this condition to ensure they are comfortable with taking this on but he has a few fundamental needs. He must be a mostly inside dog- exposure to the sun can cause flare ups, so he should be kept inside during the day and walked preferably not during peak UV exposure times. This is even more important during summer time. He will need to wear doggy sun cream on his nose when in the sun. Because we don’t have years of history on his condition, we are unsure if he will need medicine to control the odd flare up, but if he does, it is relatively cheap medication. Any prospective owner will be spoken to in more detail about this condition. We have run full bloods on him and apart from coming into care very skinny, he is otherwise healthy. He is small approximately 15kg currently but still has a couple of kilos to put on.
Broc is a gentle fella and he can be sensitive to people yelling or loud noises. He has gained amazing confidence in busier areas, but still needs reassurance in very noisy or busy environments. His new owners should be dog experienced and continue to exposure him gently to new places. He has coped wonderfully at the flyball competitions he has attended as a distinguished guest, so he’s got the ability to handle noisier environments, but care will need to be taken by his new owners. He will do best in a quieter home life with one or two adults preferably, but would be ok to live with teenage children as long as the environment is not overly chaotic.
He also extends his sociability to cats and will be fine to live in a home with dog savvy cats. He will be ok in a unit as long as it’s not in a very busy area and he can get plenty of time to stretch his legs. The main thing this boy requests in his new home is cuddles and lots of them. He just lives for human affection and is always happy to have visitors over as that means extra pats. He is a smart boy and has good basic manners and walks well on the lead. He travels quietly in the car and sleeps through the night. His foster carer is retired and is home more often than not, but he’s been fine when she goes out for a few hours here and there. He doesn’t quite understand what toys are yet, but loves his food! He uses a slow feeder bowl to slow him down and is working on taking treats more gently.
This delightful boy is looking for the retirement home of his dreams where he will be a much loved family member. Whoever meets him will fall in love straight away as he just looks right into your eyes and a connection forms straight away. If you think you can offer him the loving forever home he deserves, fill out an adoption enquiry form on our website and include details about the type of lifestyle you can offer Broc and your ability to manage his lupus.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
