Meet Freddy: this solid 8kg little dude is in need of a special home. You see, he was left behind by his previous owners when they moved away. He appears to be so distraught about this that he stopped trusting humans, even those willing to help. He retreated under the house where he was left and became shut down. Nearby neighbours tried to gain his trust by feeding him. They managed to catch him after sometime but the damage of being abandoned was done.
Freddy has a loving soul and you can see him trying to allow himself to trust people but it does take a bit of time. He comes across quite nervous around anything new. For the first few days he won't eat or drink in front of anyone. He will prefer to hide under anywhere he can fit. It's extremely important that he isn't allowed to do this. It's more beneficial for him to be placed in a crate where he feels safe but isn't closed off to what is happening around him. At the start Freddy tends to gravitate towards male humans but once comfortable he opens up to female humans in the house.
His confidence is growing every day. After his settling in period, he has taken to following the humans in the house around everywhere they go. But unfortunately he isn't quite ready for you to squat down and give him pats. He is open to pats when he is comfortably sitting next to you on the couch and you approach him slowly.
He isn't fussed by other dogs. He has been around both big and small dogs. When other dogs initiate play he sometimes is willing to show his puppy side again and have a little play. On the odd occasion he is willing to chase a toy in the back yard but he needs the support of another dog.
Freddy is ok around children, but children need to not chase or harass him. He is happy to just chill in their presence. He doesn't care about cats, in fact there is one in his current foster home and they get along very well just co-existing.
Freddy is quite food motivated once he has settled in, he is happy to take food from your hand at times. Being food motivated will come in handy for his continued lead training. At present he is quite afraid of a lead and is slowly being introduced to one.
It's important for enquiries to understand that Freddy at present isn't a lap dog that will come up and sit on your lap right away. He will take time to adjust and settle in. He has shown he is capable of over coming his fear and settling into a home.
Freddy is $200 to adopt and comes desexed, microchipped, C5 vaccinated and given flea, tick and worm preventatives.
