Star was a stray taken into care from the Cairns pound, and we are very glad that she has a second chance because she is a loving and affectionate girl who likes nothing better than to be next to you receiving a cuddle or a pat. She is quickly learning to walk well on lead and will also run well on lead for short distances if her adopter likes a companion when jogging.
Star has pretty eyes typical of the Catahoula breed, and an unusual large brindle spot on her white back- her foster carers have nicknamed her ‘Cookie’ because the spot looks like a large chocolate chip biscuit!
Star has a deep bark but is generally not interested in joining her foster siblings in barking at random things in the street, but does bark a few times when she is genuinely worried. She would make an excellent deterrent for people looking for a dog for added safety but is not at all aggressive and without the nuisance barking.
Star loves the company of other dogs, although we think she may also do well as an only dog. Star is untested with cats and will require testing if a potential adopter already has a cat as part of their family.
She is quickly learning not to jump on the couch or the bed at her foster home, and will need continuing reinforcement with this training. Due to Star’s age and size, she currently requires reinforcement not to jump up, so she is better suited to families with older children. In time, with more training and age, the behaviour will settle, but she is still fresh from the pound and very enthusiastic about attention from her human foster carers.
Everyone who has met Star has been impressed with her friendly and gentle nature and we are sure that her lucky forever family will fall in love with her very quickly.
Star is $350 to adopt and comes desexed, microchipped, C5 vaccinated, and given worm/tick/flea preventatives.
