Archie was one of a pair of dogs who sadly lost their loving owner and had a stressful time left alone without human interaction apart from feeding. After some time in our care, we have determined that Archie and his companion will do best going their separate ways.
Archie has been described by his foster carers as ‘loving, affectionate and easy’. Typical of his mighty breed, Archie is a friendly soul, who is comfortable in his own skin. Toilet trained and with basic obedience training, he is responsive to his people once he knows where he belongs and what is expected. He sleeps well in his own bed, is relaxed with the comings and goings of the house, and calm and undestructive when left for a few hours inside while his people are out and about. Archie loves a car ride and is comfortable being handled; indeed, he loves a cuddle.
Archie currently enjoys two short walks a day, but may well be up for longer jaunts and sniffs around the neighbourhood. His other pleasures include playing with his toys and lounging with his people. Archie has shown some reactivity to dogs when out on walks but we think he is mirroring the behaviour of his former companion and these traits are likely to be a thing of the past once they are no longer together. He definitely enjoys the attention of his people and would probably prefer to be an only dog in the home, so he can bask in the attention he so richly deserves. We must admit that Archie does resource guard toys, food and people against other dogs in the home. He likes you to himself. Archie is untested with cats.
Archie would be equally happy in a busy and loving family home as he is comfortable with comings and goings, or with one or two adoring adults who are able to give him the love and attention he deserves. Whatever his situation, Archie will appreciate regular exercise and further training to develop a bond with his new people. Given his self-contained nature, Archie would be fine being left indoors while his people are out for a few hours, or with indoor-outdoor access for longer periods. Like all dogs, Archie will need time with his people and will not be happy being left alone for extensive periods. We think Archie will do best in an only pet home. Mighty Archie looks forward to finding his people. Could that be you?
Thank you to Christopher of Christopher Fotobooks for the fantastic photos of Archie.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
