About Scorpion
Scorpion is a fun loving young man looking for an energetic household to call home.
HOUSEHOLD- He will need to be kept mentally and physically challenged to keep him entertained and would be best suited to an adult only or adult and teenager household due to his semi aloof personality.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Scorpion has pretty polite manners overall and can sit on command. He very rarely jumps up to say hello unless he is very excited or if you smell really, really good. He is food motivated to learn more and displays attentive behaviours (most of the time) to verbal commands and human interaction. His new owners will just have to be aware that he can be abit stubborn at times and is more than willing to patiently wait for a treat even without presenting the wanted behaviour. His future training sessions will need to be fun and interactive to keep him involved.
ON LEAD- Scorpion can be the picture perfect dog walking directly by your side never pulling at all or he can be in his own world pulling towards whatever he feels is interesting. With some training and routine this behaviour should level out into a nice gentle walking style. He really enjoys exploring the world and rolling in the grass so lead walks are a must for this boy!
PLAY/TOYS- Scorpion has shown some interest in playing with toys with a handler but is easily distracted in the kennel environment and would rather be out of the facility exploring the real world.
OTHER DOGS- Scorpion came into the facility and was easily overwhelmed by the presence of other dogs. He has since become more used to facility life and appears to enjoy interactions with other social dogs. He is still easily overwhelmed in the facility and we feel that he will continue to improve his canine social skills once he is out and in his new home. From the behaviours display, Scorpion appears social enough to live with another canine companion, he will just require a meet and greet prior to adoption to make sure that he gets along well with his new canine buddy.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Scorpion entered the cattery with confidence. He was not scared by the cats hissing at him and continued to walk through, exploring and sniffing till he was ready to leave. He displayed some prey/play drive when one of the cats offered a fast sudden movement but he moved away with minimal fuss and did not continue to fixate on this. For this reason we would be recommending a no cat or pocket pet household. We will conduct further testing to see if he may be suitable in the future.
CAR RIDES- While slightly hesitant to get in at first Scorpion settled easily on the back seat for the entire ride. He was comfortable in his car harness and attachment to the car seat clip and followed handler requests getting in and out.
CARE/GROOMING- Scorpion has a nice short coat that will require minimal grooming. He was a little unsure of basic grooming care and will require time for confidence building in this area.
EXERCISE- Scorpion is a moderate to high energy needs dog. He will require a daily walk/run and some time spent playing in the backyard to keep him happy. Mental stimulation challenges such as hide’n’seek, licki mats, snuffle mats and any other type of enrichment will also be very beneficial for this boy.
NUTRITION- Scorpion is currently being fed an Adult dry feed diet with a variety of wet feed options offered when available. He will require a diet that will assist him to gain afew extra kilos and maintain his energy needs.
Scorpion is a Border Collie X Staffy and currently at our Charmhaven Shelter. His $300 adoption fee covers: desexing, lifetime registration, microchipping, current vaccination, flea & worming treatments.
If you would like to be considered to add Scorpion to your family, please lodge your interest.
