Hi! I'm Russell! I'm a King Charles Cavelier/Poodle cross (Cavoodle)--and both those breeds are prone to allergies and ear infections. I was initially relinquished to SAFE because my allergies were causing severe ear infections, and treating me was problematical--I was in so much pain I was often ""bitey"".

I'm now looking for a particular type of adopter.  What SAFE has realised is that I will need a home with at least 2 adults, so they can work together to clean my ears and administer my meds. My new owners will also need to be able to afford my meds--currently this entails Cytopoint injections and Osurnia ear gel--probably every 6-8 weeks on an ongoing basis. Ongoing costs could be up to $200 every month or two.

If you adopt me, you will need to adhere to a strict maintenance program both of diet, and ear cleaning/care. I will also need to be groomed every 8-12 weeks.  But if you're prepared to commit to all that, you'll have yourself a cuddly companion. I love to be held and cuddled--in fact, if you wanted to carry me around all day (in your arms, or a doggy carrier) I wouldn't mind a bit.  If you set me down I'm a champ on-lead as well.  

I'm a bit of a scaredy cat in new surroundings or situations.  I startle at loud noises and will shake when I encounter other dogs approaching me off lead, or big/loud people.  I'm dog friendly but cautious until I get to know them better--just like I am with humans. When I encounter other dogs on lead that are reactive and want to bark and lunge at me, I just ignore them and let them have their tantrums, but if they get too close then I'll start to shake. I haven't been around cats or kids yet, but I don't anticipate being a Dr. Jekyl/Mr Hyde :). I'm a bit of a 'velcro' dog, as in I like to be physically close to you always, but my foster carers are working on this.  

I'm food-obsessed, so I'll need your help to keep me a healthy weight.
