About Kovu
Look at Kovu !!!! He is divine and a big love bug.
HOUSEHOLD- Kovu is a lovely young man whose larger size should not be cause for alarm. From the behaviours he has shown at the facility he could be suitable for a variety of different households including singles, adults only or a family setting. We would be recommending a home with children 10yrs and above due to his larger size and ability to knock over smaller children without trying. He has shown no behaviours towards smaller children that concern us but he does have a boisterous playful nature and would be best supervised whilst he settles into his new home.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Kovu is a responsive young dog who can sit on command and is food motivated to learn more. He is eager to listen (most of the time) and would benefit from on-going obedience classes where basic commands, impulse control and basic doggy manners can be improved.
ON LEAD- Kovu walks well on lead outside of the kennel environment. He can pull gently at times but responds well to verbal commands and is very patient if he needs to wait for you while he cannot go somewhere he wants to go. Being a larger dog a head halti may help improve his walking further but at this stage he does not yet require one.
PLAY/TOYS- Kovu is keen to interact but very easily distracted here in the pound environment. He has shown no possessive behaviours towards his toys and would most likely show more of his true self and play style once in the home environment.
OTHER DOGS- Kovu is keen to meet other dogs and can appear overly confident from a distance pulling towards them if given the chance. Once up close he will stand still almost immediately but wishes to play with them by pushing his butt towards them every chance he gets. He can be vocal during some moments of his play and does not always realise his own strength knocking over his canine buddies at times. He has shown no signs of aggression that would concern us with him being rehomed with the right canine companion.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Kovu walked into the facilities cattery with confidence. He was startled by the hissing cats but willingly moved past them easily to explore the litter, food and other delicious items that may be around. He appears to show a familiarity towards them and may or may not have previously lived with a cat or two. He is however at this stage unsuitable to live with cats or small pocket pets due to his boisterous response with continuous hissing and he would require further testing before a cat household could be recommended.
CAR RIDES- Kovu is comfortable getting in and out of the car and is more than happy to wear a chest harness connection for safety. With a few small whinges to start the ride he settled nicely and enjoyed the wind in his face taking in the world as it flew by.
GROOMING/CARE- Kovu has a short easy coat to maintain and appears to show no signs or symptoms of skin sensitivities or other health issues at this stage. He can be a little mouthy and fidgety when he has had enough of being handled but does respond well to treats and verbal commands to help settle him back down. He is currently being fed two meals a day based on a dry food diet with wet feed options such as tinned or fresh meat being offered when available. We always recommend a high quality diet to help prevent any health issues into the future and regular annual vet visits to maintain vaccination status and help identify issues before they become a real problem.
EXERCISE- Kovu is a medium to high energy needs pup and would best suit a household who is able to take him for daily walks/runs and involve him in as many social family activities as possible.
