About Chuck
** IN FOSTER CARE IN WAVERLY**
Chuck, AKA Chuckie, AKA Poppet is one of the most beautiful dogs we've ever known. He's communicative, curious, confident, jaunty, cheeky and sweet-natured.
We are not sure of his complete history but imagine he's got every reason not to trust people, however he loves completely and fearlessly. He's had several operations since he's being in care, one of which meant he couldn't walk for a few weeks and was confined to a small space. He has taken all this in his stride - he's a champion.
Chuckie's tail never stops wagging. He's so happy to be in your company and will literally jump into your lap for a cuddle. And you'd best be prepared to cuddle - this guy is powered by cuddles, kisses and his favourite: belly rubs.
He's a massive goofball. One of his favourite things is squirming around on his back and getting folded up like a taco, always with a wry smile that makes you feel like the two of you are having a private joke.
Chuckie loves walking around the neighbourhood saying hello to people and dogs. He’s great on lead. The staffie in him means he can be determined on lead, but he’s incredibly responsive to direction and tiny (he’s 13kg - a pocket staffie/mix) so he goes where you go - he’s just genuinely happy to be out and about. At home he’s cruisy and cuddly. He loves to be close to you, but also takes himself off for alone time.
He loves his food, but isn't super driven by it. He’s really the best of a few breeds - he looks (and sometimes acts) like a puppy, but has an older dog’s sensibilities - super chilled, but playful and did I mention CUDDLY. He has a giggle-powered tail where if you laugh, he wiggles his bum in enjoyment with you.
We really can’t say enough about this guy - he’s going to make someone or a family so very happy.
Oh, and he has soft white whiskers like a seal!
MY IDEAL HOME: Chuckie’s ideal home will be with either: a single or couple that are home most of the time and can shower him with love and affection, or; a family with enough people to have someone around most of the time. He’d love a yard for his daily zoomies, but an apartment with a couple of strolls a day would also be fine.
He’d also like someone who is prepared to do 10 minutes of strength exercises a day for his post-op leg.
Whoever adopts Chuck should be physically affectionate - he is powered by pats and rubs and kisses!
Chuck is a TINY staffie X and has mostly traits of a smaller terrier, e.g. a foxy, but the staffie in him is determined and cheeky, so a little experience with staffs would be good, although his size and nature would make him a perfect “starter staffie” for anyone interested in the breed.
MY ENERGY LEVEL: Chuck is a very chilled dog. He loves sunbaking and sleeping in front of the heater, but does also love a casual couple of strolls each day, especially if he gets to sniff around and say hello to people and dogs.
He gets the zoomies once a day, but only for about 5 minutes. This is a good time to turn the pats and belly rubs into a little gentle play session. He gets excited to go on walks, but is calm and chilled as soon as he is walking.
As long as he’s near his humans, he is totally happy chilling near you on his bed and does take himself off to the other room occasionally if he wants some alone time.
MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Kids love Chuckie and he loves them! He prefers gentler kids who would prefer pats and cuddles to play time. He is great with kids of all ages, but prefers older than a toddler. He’s so cute and little that a couple of toddlers who haven’t learned how to be gentle with dogs have made him shy away - he will take himself out of the situation/seek someone gentler in the room.
MY SUITABILITY TO CATS AND DOGS: Chuck gets along great with other dogs on the street, but we have not seen him cohabit. He’s very confident for a little dog, and while submissive with humans is very confident with other dogs so there would need to be a clear hierarchy with other dogs in the house. We would introduce him and any other pooch gradually.
We haven’t seen him with a cat, but he is very curious about them on the street. Our gut says he wouldn’t do well with a cat in the house, but wouldn’t rule it out.

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
