About Rosco
Well, there is no other way to start this profile than address the elephant in the room- Rosco has no eyes! Before you make a judgement on that, please take a minute to read his blurb as what he lacks in eyes he absolutely makes up for tenfold in personality.
Rosco came to us from a rural NSW pound where he was surrendered by his previous family due to their travel plans. He arrived in care with one eye which he lost as a puppy due to a trauma related injury but, unfortunately we immediately saw how sore and affected his remaining eye was so he was off to the vet to have it assessed. Luckily, he already had no vision in that eye, so having it removed didn’t change anything for Rosco but gave him a pain free life. Rosco had all of his other vet work done including full bloods and they were fantastic! Everyone at the clinic not only commented on his incredible temperament, but couldn’t believe he was 13- his health, condition and personality all make him seem like a much younger dog.
Rosco’s love language is touch. He has the most affectionate nature and his little tail wags all the time. He is so gentle and absolutely loves snuggling up to his foster carers and enjoys nothing more than lying on your lap or stomach for a good evening cuddle. Although he has no vision and is a little hard of hearing he is incredibly self-sufficient. It took him a couple of days to figure out the lay of the land, but now he gets around his foster home with ease and is happy to just chill out on his bed if you are busy.
This boy has too many positives to list in a short profile, but a main takeaway is how low maintenance he is. He will happily lie on a bed next to you while you work (or on your lap if you let him!), he sleeps on his bed downstairs happily overnight and is happy to stay home alone while you pop out. He loves his daily walks and currently goes for 2x half an hour strolls for a good sniff. He is low energy, but would love a home where he can still get out daily to get some fresh air and stretch his legs. Although he is a very chilled out older gent, don’t let that make you think he’s a boring dog who just sits in the corner doing nothing. He LOVES interacting with his humans and once you experience being on the receiving end of Rosco’s love you will fall head over heels in love with him and be overwhelmed with his resiliency.
Rosco is social with everyone. He is dog, cat and kid friendly. He is happy to make friends with everyone! Rosco will suit most households as long as someone is home more often than not as we don’t feel it’s fair in his retirement to be left home alone during work hours even though he is content to sleep away the day when you’re out. Rosco is not jumpy to touch at all, he just leans in for a cuddle and he was incredibly gentle with the toddler he spent a day with. Any children in prospective families should be dog savvy. A quieter home life would be better for Rosco, but he has the most accepting temperament he could fit most environments.
He is not a barker so will be unit friendly. He is toilet trained and travels perfectly in the car. His foster carers have described him as the easiest dog they have ever cared for! He would be the perfect work buddy or even a dog to go into nursing homes to cuddle up to the residents as he is just so welcoming of any new person in his life, he really is one of a kind. Another bonus is he is very low to non shedding!
We understand not having eyes may be a concern to some, but once you meet this special boy, his lack of eyes will be long but forgotten because his personality and willingness to please shine through. He is 9kg and walks impeccably on the lead. He will require a dental which we couldn’t do at the time of eye removal due to the risk of infection. Fetching dogs will pay for this dental when he is settled into his new home if it’s done at one of our affiliated vets.
Rosco’s constantly wagging tail, affectionate nature and pure soul will draw you in in an instant. The way this boy just gets on with life is admirable and we can’t wait for him to find his perfect forever family where he can shower them with cuddles and love. Rosco will require a home where he is allowed inside as part of the family and given a comfy bed to sleep on inside of a night.
If you think you have room on your lap for our boy Rosco, please fill out a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website and include some details about the type of home you can offer our precious Rosco.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
