Devon is a sweet little bundle of joy. He’s had a bit of a tough start to life, arriving at the shelter feeling fearful and timid. However, with the help of the compassionate staff here, he is slowly gaining confidence and learning to trust humans.
He’s a sensitive little guy who thrives on gentle care and understanding. That's why he is looking for an experienced owner who has dealt with timid dogs before. It's important to find someone who can provide the patience and time needed to help him continue building his confidence and overcome any fears. With the right guidance and support, we know that he can become the version of himself.
Currently, he is learning to trust people and enjoy their company. He takes treats gently and appreciates gentle pats from my carers. As he grows more comfortable, we’re sure that he will blossom and show you just how loving and loyal he can be.
To help him thrive, he'll need a calm and quiet environment. Loud noises and a busy household can overwhelm him, so a peaceful home would be ideal. Additionally, having someone around often would be great, as he benefits from regular companionship and interaction. He enjoys spending time with his handlers, and having them nearby will help him feel secure.
We must admit that despite his timid nature he is quite food motivated. That means that he is eager to learn and will gladly participate in training sessions. He already knows how to sit, and he’s making progress walking on a leash. However, we believe some professional training would greatly benefit him. It would not only help him build his skills but also strengthen the bond between Devon and his new owner.
Devon is open to meeting dogs of the same nature as he is - he has been marked as being dog selective/social. We feel that he could make dog friends providing that are able to match his shy demeanour.
Devon hasn't been around children much, so it would be best if any children in the household are over 10 years old and understand how to behave around dogs. A calm and dog-savvy environment is crucial for his continued growth and happiness.
If you're someone with experience, patience, and a big heart, I believe we could be a perfect match submit an Expression of Interest today.
