Bobby - 9 Month Old Maltese X (Trial)

Meet Bobby, a delightful Maltese mix, estimated to be around 6 to 9 months old, and Nixon, a lovable Pomeranian mix who is close to 4 years old. These two furry companions share a lovely bond and would like to be adopted together.

Bobby and Nixon absolutely adore snuggling, receiving gentle pats, and going on leisurely walks around the neighbourhood, local park, or even to a nearby coffee shop with their foster carer. Throughout the day, you'll often find them snuggled up together in their beds, enjoying peaceful naps. They are incredibly devoted companions who always seek to be by your side or in the same room whenever you're at home. Their love for affection is unmatched, and they'll quickly find their way onto your lap even before you settle on the couch! Nothing pleases them more than belly rubs and the occasional treat of boiled chicken.

Since entering foster care, Bobby and Nixon have adapted well to living in an inner city apartment setting. They have been successfully crate-trained and are nearly fully toilet trained. Their foster carer is currently working on introducing the command "toilet" before bedtime and in the morning. Surprisingly, they have quickly grasped this routine and often head straight to the kitchen's treat drawer as a reward after using the pee pad tray! At night, they sleep peacefully in their crates and occasionally share their foster carer’s bed. As they were recently given their names upon entering foster care, their recall and other basic commands are still a work in progress, but they are eager learners.

Bobby has been diagnosed with a neurological condition known as cerebellar hypoplasia, which means that his cerebellum, located at the back of the brain near the spinal cord, is underdeveloped and unable to function normally. The cerebellum plays a crucial role in maintaining balance and coordinating movement. Due to his condition, Bobby exhibits wobbling, frequent head bobs, and stumbling, which actually led to his endearing name, Bobby! While his condition is not treatable, it doesn't hinder his overall quality of life in any way. He takes pleasure in running and walking, exhibiting independent movement on flat surfaces. Nevertheless, navigating stairs or jumping onto furniture presents a challenge, and he may emit a gentle whimper to request assistance. His endearing clumsiness and exaggerated movements are unique characteristics that stem from his condition, contributing to his quirkiness!

Nixon is a leash pro and can confidently walk both on and off-leash, as his unwavering focus will be on you. He’s good-natured towards both people and dogs, although he's not overly playful with other canines. He can exhibit signs of shyness but appreciates gentle pats from people. In public, Nixon remains quiet but he'll let you know when he wants affection in the comfort of his own space at home. Bobby is also friendly with both dogs and humans; however, he can become vocal and playful at times. He is capable of walking on a leash, although occasional assistance may be required involving steps to ensure smooth and enjoyable outings.

Nixon and Bobby thrive on human companionship, and their ideal forever family would be individuals who are frequently present around the home. They should have indoor access and be allowed to cuddle on the couch. Ideally, they would prefer to sleep on the bed with you or, alternatively, sleep together in their crate inside the home. It is important to note that Bobby requires a home without stairs or steps and a relatively flat backyard to ensure his independent mobility. Additionally, it would be best if there were no larger dogs or young children in the household. To ensure Bobby's safety, their foster carer has effectively used a baby gate to block access to the staircase in their apartment. While both dogs thoroughly enjoy their daily walks, they do not require extensive exercise. Two 30-minute walks a day, coupled with outings to local cafes for puppy chinos or other outings, would be the perfect balance for their activity level.
