About Brian STA011080
Brian is a sweet gentle soul who would love a routine household to settle into. Brian was very frightened when he found himself in shelter, but blossomed into a happy house cat in his foster home. He enjoyed living with a family with 3 cat-savvy kids aged 7-16. He enjoys a predictable routine and began to settle and explore the home after a few weeks in his safe room.
Brian is very food motivated and loves his Dine creamy treats (tuna and salmon flavour are his favourite!). Once he is comfortable he enjoys hanging around and playing with his humans.
Brian is a moderately active cat who loves hunting his wand toy and playing with balls and small soft toys, he also likes to just sit on a chair and watch his humans. He is most active in the evenings, preferring to snooze the day away, he would also enjoy access to a large scratching post that he can scratch and climb.
Once he trusts you, he will rub up against your hand asking for pats. Brian is looking for a patient and kind home that can welcome him in and take things at his pace. Once settled this playful boys likes to hang around you and can be quite affectionate.
Brian has not lived with other cats but due to his gentle nature may be okay with a slow introduction to a friendly feline.
Favorite Toys – Although he doesn’t allow everyone to touch him, he loves people playing with him. He loves his green furry wand stick. He loves it when we try to tease him near the chair because he likes to stand on the chair to get the toy. He plays with it so much that it came off the stick. He loves his mouse toy and his small ball toy. He can chase that, and he can play that on his own too.
Toilet/Litter Box Only once on his second week because we moved his litter tray to the toilet, and he is probably scared to go to the toilet.
Personality traits, likes and dislikes – He needs someone who is very patient and calm. He loves his treats. The person taking him will need to continue talking to him while giving him food and treats. Reach out your hand to him but wait till he comes over to you on his own. He loves gentle pats. You will be able to feel the pressure that he likes. He seems to like the 13-year-old best followed by the 7-year-old. He looks for my husband too every night. He must talk to him and give him a pat before he goes to his bedroom.
Generally, it has been a slow process for Brian to warm up to us, but he is a quiet cat during the day. He comes out in the evenings and starts looking for us after 3 weeks. We take it slow with him but continued talking and giving him lot of encouragement. He is not so much of a lap cat (but he sits on my second daughter’s lap) and he will not allow us to carry him but who knows with more time, he might just get even more comfortable.
Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
We will answer any questions you have regarding cat care and help you to obtain any support you may need.
