About Ash - 2yo - Greyhound
Ash is a total sweet heart! An affectionate 2 year old girl with a gentle nature. She loves cuddles, with humans or snuggled with her greyhound foster sister. She would do well as an only dog if her humans are home most of the time, otherwise she would do better with a friend (medium/large size dog). She sleeps throughout the night, in her bed alongside her foster sister.
She walks well on leash in a pair or alone, she is not startled by traffic noise or the urban environment, but will avoid manhole covers at all costs! She is a big girl, weighing in at ~30kgs & enjoys breakfast/dinner and an enrichment activity throughout the day. She even shares a kong when her foster sister finishes hers quicker!
She can get excited on leash when passing other dogs, but can be easily called back to her foster carers and has started taking treats (kibble) as a reward on walks. She responds well to verbal praise and redirection, her squeaky toys or treats. Often looking back at her foster family to check in on walks.
She has good name recognition and is getting better at recall every day! She will do well with consistent training and building trust in her forever humans.
As she has not had a lot of socialisation outside her breed, she needs slow and controlled introductions to other dogs and continued training when saying hello at the park.
Ash never raced. She seems to prefer playing with toys to running but is still energetic going on two 30 - 45 min walks per day.
She is currently living in an apartment and goes out ~4 times a day to take care of business & uses a balcony plant potty with success. She will let her humans know when she wants to go out by pacing and whimpering. Apartment living is possible for her but she will need regular exercise, otherwise a house with a garden would work better.
No issue with using lift, and short runs of stairs (8-12), she is still unsure of open stairs. She jumps up into the back of her foster mum's SUV without issue. She takes tablets beautifully, allowing the foster family to touch her mouth.
She is a gorgeous girl and will be a great addition to a family who will spoil her with love and adventures.
