About Louis
Meet the loveable Louis (pronounced Lou-ee). Affectionate, playful and tiny little Lou-Lou is an absolute delight. He has such a fun personality and will make you fall in love with cute little face immediately.
This little pocket rocket weighs in at a tiny 2.9kg so he's a teeny tiny little fella . He is only 6 months old so may grow a little bit more but will remain a toy sized dog. Due to his petite size, he is quite fragile and care must be taken to ensure he is handled gently by all members of the household.
Louis has been in foster care in a unit with a small yard with a foster mum and her 2 year old cavoodle in whom he adores to pieces

FAVORITE THINGS
Louis’ favorite thing is definitely his foster fur sister. He has thrived in foster care having the companionship and comfort of another small dog to play and sleep with.
He also loves to play with various different toys. He will chase a ball if you throw it and loves to chew on them too.
INTERACTION WITH HUMANS
Louis is very loving with his foster mum. He seeks her out for cuddles and attention throughout the day, and loves to snuggle up to her in bed at night.
He is welcoming to visitors and will approach for a pat and will happily be picked up for a cuddle (and a kiss if they’re not careful!).
Louis is a tiny dog so extra care must be taken to make sure he is handled gently. He can get under foot a bit so you also have to watch where you’re walking!
If there are children in his new home, they MUST be gentle and mature, and understand that he can’t be handled rough, dropped or trod on.
Louis is not very mouthy, but he can be quite in your face with kisses and paws so his new family need to continue setting boundaries so he learns his manners.
OBEDIENCE/TRAINING
Louis didn’t seem to have many obedience skills when he arrived. We’ve been working on sit and he’s pretty much got it mastered. He is treat motivated so his new family should be able to continue his training. At only 6 months old he would benefit from obedience classes, or at last dedicated training time with his new owner.
ANIMAL SOCIAL SKILLS
Louis loves his foster sister (2 year old 10kg female cavoodle owned by his foster mum). They spend all of their time together playing, chasing, and wrestling with each other. They often sleep cuddled up in the same bed together. It’s the cutest thing ever! He is so much more settled when she is around both at home and out for walks. When he is left home alone he is unsettled and will switch between sitting in bed and crying at the front door until foster mum/sis come home. Not only has the companionship comforted him, but he has also learnt by following her example.
For these reasons, we seek another dog in his new home to keep him company, play and him the ways of the world! They should be a smallish female dog, very playful and cuddly, tolerant of puppy wrestling and over-affection lol. Louis responds well if his foster sister growls at him so a little bit of assertiveness is good to teach him his social cues.
He has not been tested with any other animals.
FOOD
Louis eats twice a day and is having premium puppy food. He will eat it all in one go. He enjoys training treats and is food motivated.
INDEPENDENCE
Louis requires another dog as a companion. He is settled and happy when home with his foster sister. He is left with her 10 hours a day, 3 days a week (and shorter periods on some other days) and is completely fine.
When completely by himself at home he is much less settled. He will switch between sitting in bed looking out the window, and crying at the front door.
HYGIENE
Louis has a soft smooth coat. He will require the occasional bath and brush. He has had one bath on his first day and tolerated it well.
SLEEPING
Louis has used his cuteness and big puppy dog eyes to weasel his way into his foster mum's bed. He loves to cuddle up next to her and fur-sis at night.
His first few nights in care we tried to get him to sleep in a crate, dog bed in the lounge or in the bedroom but he just wouldn’t settle and would cry or bark. Foster mum caved and just let him sleep in her bed.
We’ve been getting him used to sleeping in the crate during the day by giving him free access with open door. So if his new family wants to crate train, he has started getting comfortable with it.
It did take him a week to settle overnight and we expect the same in his new home,
EXERCISE
Louis while require a short walk each or every other day. He is quite active at home and will frequently run around chasing and wrestling with his foster sister which burns a decent bit of his energy.
He walks quite well on lead. We have been easing him into walking out in the big wide world by taking him around the same route of the neighborhood at quiet times. He tends to bark at noises and other dogs more when walked alone, but when his foster sis joins he is less worried.
Louis is definitely NOT suitable for dog parks or other high density/off-leash dog areas. He is so tiny that one rough move or bite from a large dog could do serious damage.
INSIDE THE HOME
Louis is pretty well behaved in the home. He hasn’t shown any signs of destruction (although his foster home is pretty puppy proof).
He is definitely an inside dog and will want to be near you as much as possible. He is sensitive to the cold so we’ve been keeping the heater on for him.
A typical chihuahua, he is a bit of a guard dog and will bark at unknown sights and sounds outside.
His toilet training is continuing to improve. He has learnt to use the dog door and takes himself out throughout the day. He is still having maybe one accident inside a day here and there.
We’ve said he’s tiny but can you believe he can get halfway stuck in the 7cm gap in a baby gate? Therefore his new home must have absolutely no gaps in the fencing as he will squeeze his tiny body through and escape/get stuck.
IDEAL HOME
-Must have a playmate. A smaller size female dog, playful and tolerant of puppy antics. Must love chasing, wrestling, and cuddles.
-A loving family who will welcome him inside and enjoy his company and affection
-Gentle mature kids okay due to his tiny body we seek children over the age of 10 as we dont want him dropped of accidentally stood on
-He is okay being left alone for longer periods with his fur-sister, so okay for the family to be out and about some days.
-A small yard. Louis doesn’t require much outdoor space as he will spend most time inside with his family. Just enough to do his business. No gaps in fencing, no stairs or retaining walls he may fall down.
-Obedience training so he continues his training and learns more commands and good behavior.
Louis is bursting with a gorgeous and fun personality and will undoubtedly make his new family laugh and fall in love with him very quickly! He is the cutest tiny little guy that will be a wonderful addition to the right family.
Now please remember he is a tiny dog so we are NOT seeking a home where he will potentially be stood on by people unsteady on their feet
