About Odin
Odin is a very affectionate boy who loves couch cuddles, playtime and food. Like many bigger dogs he has spurts of energy, but he also just loves to lie down in a sunny spot or with his head in your lap.
He is an obedient boy who can sit, drop, roll and shake, and stay until you give him instructions to eat his food. He loves a walk or two and is good on lead and doesn't pull excessively. He is known to try to get you to go home quickly if it rains. Like many of us, he prefers to be snuggled up indoors on a rainy day.
Odin can struggle with anxiety, looking for the safety of his human in times of stress. He takes daily medication to support his mental wellbeing and prefers walks outside in areas that are not busy. He is also prone to skin irritation, which is managed through gentle shampoo products.
He’s a well-dressed boy in winter with hoodies, a puffer jacket and cute pjs. He’s known to sport a bandana in summer and down a ‘doggy beer’ (bone broth mix) on a quiet Sunday in. Odin is a loving dog who brings much joy.
He is not experienced with children or other dogs, and tends to feel unsafe in their company. His ideal family would be one where there are no children and not too many strangers visiting. He can be a bit worried about unfamiliar men, but strangely he is fine with men with beards! We suspect he has grown up with women and a man with a beard.
He would love a big backyard of his own and a family that is happy to let him lead a nice quiet life without too many changes.
Medical notes
Odin can be sensitive to grass and allergens and is currently on medications to manage his anxiety. His behaviour vet is happy to do a pre and post-adoption Zoom consultation to discuss his behavioural needs and medications and how to manage his mental health post-adoption.
Odin currently lives in an apartment and when he was adopted his owner was single and he had a nice stable environment. Now that his owner is spending more time at her partner's house with a young child, Odin is being left alone quite a lot.
Odin can be reactive to other dogs and strangers on lead, which can be easily managed by giving him lots of space when he goes on walks. He walks very well on lead, but like many dogs, does not like strange men, kids or dogs approaching him while he is on lead.
He is very much loved and doted upon, his current living arrangements do not suit his personality. He would love a home with no children and a bit more space to be himself. We suspect that in the right home may not need medications any longer and can be weaned off the medications. Support on how to do this will be provided by Canberra Behaviour Vet at no cost to his new family.
