About Bert
Meet Bert, an eight year old male Chihuahua. Bertie is a very pretty little dude and is ready and willing to love his new people.
Bert loves to run around outside if his people are outside too, but his favourite place is as close as possible to you. Preferably on your lap.
Bert has been sleeping well in his crate at night but I expect he would prefer to be on his people’s bed. Bert is good with other dogs (I don’t know about cats). He’s fostered with three other small dogs and is fine with them, except if they are too much in his face (he is a Chihuaha after all).
Bert would have to be an indoor dog, we have a doggy door but he hasn’t got the hang of it yet. This little boy will be fantastic company for a retired person or couple. Bertie is great with older children but we don’t recommend little children as they can be too much for tiny dogs. Bertie walks OK on a lead with a small harness.
Another small dog for company would be ideal, but as long as his new people are home a lot I think he would be fine as an only dog. For house training, Bert will need to be monitored and taken outside frequently for the first week or so until he settles into your routine, because he doesn’t like to be outside alone.
Experience with tiny dogs and or Chihuahuas would be an advantage as they are quite different to medium/large dogs.
Please note we will be choosing the most suitable home for Bert, not the first application.
Medical notes
Bert had to have all his teeth extracted. He has recovered from the surgery but will not be able to chew anything that requires teeth.
He has been eating small kibble and chunks of chicken and he has a VERY good appetite.
