Freedom !! Yay from the backyard but Raz is still learning about the big wide world.
At home he is energetic, obedient and full of love to give and always greets you with a big smile, full of life eyes and a very cute tail bum wags. The perfect house companion
Unfortunately Raz has been under socialized to the outside world, much so , he is overwhelmed when heās out seeing lots of people and doggos.
Independence :
It became very clear early on that Raz could be left alone inside all day whilst foster mum was at work with no destruction at all.
If the foster mum is outside he will sit and look through the window just making sure he is in constant view of his human !
Raz has been successfully left alone with access to the whole house and inside/ outside access from day 2 of being in his new home.
From what foster mum can tell he snoozes away all day in his bed in the living room waiting for his human to come home and say a big happy hello.
Car -
Raz has had no issue traveling in the car at all and has had a few car trips.
Enrichment -
His favorite things in order are
Humans, food, walks, naps and toys.
Raz loves to say hello to all humans with his big goofy smile and tail wag. It is his favorite when his people come home and he gets to follow them around all afternoon helping out with the daily chores. Head scratches and pats are a big bonus for him.
Breakfast and dinner are his favorite time of the day ! If there is food around Raz wants to know what it is and whose it is, he is a very gentle boy whilst taking treats or sharing the occasional snack, he sits and waits patiently until foster mum says his breakfast or dinner is his. He has never jumped up to steal food or become food aggressive . Great manners
Raz will let you know when heās getting a little restless for his daily hour walk as he loves to get out and about ! Raz is a 33 kg boy and he can be very strong on the lead so someone with bigger dog experience will be necessary.
He loves to get out and sniff everything on his walk but if there is someone else or another dog to say hello to he will most definitely be very excited so needs a bit of work in this
With all the energy Raz has he is also a very calm snoozy boy, if foster mum is relaxing he will be too. Lazy movie days are a favorite. Very happy to lounge around and snooze the day away. Sleeps soundly through the night even with all the snoring he does.
If heās not following you around you will find him having a nap in whatever area of the house you are .
Raz has been in a small backyard and definitely loves a little throw and play with toys around the house and a little game of chasey.
Walks :
As Raz has not had a lot of socialization outside the home he is going to require a committed owner to help him with his walking and socialization skills. Raz gets overstimulated/excited with barking and squealing when he sees another dog, no fault of his own this is due to his past life. We feel he has just not had a lot of exposure to areas with a lot of dogs so for him it is a time of intense excitement. He is best walked in quiet dog areas for this reason. He just hasnāt learnt his social cues so this can be a bit overwhelming to dogs he meets. He is best socialized with submissive female dogs he has had slow introductions to.
As said before Raz can be quite strong on the lead but responds well when the lead is shortened and he is just focused on walking.
His main aim of the walk is to sniff everything and anything. Raz will need someone with larger dog experience and an hour walk a day in quiet areas until he gets more training and exposure over time.
Socialization :
Raz has met many new humans since being at his foster home and has been lovely and well behaved with all of them.
Thereās not a human he wonāt love I donāt think !
Raz was surrendered with a female lab and has been tested and spent a weekend with a young submissive female so we know he can be social if introduced slowly. On lead because of his poor previous socialization he can come across quite intimidating to some dogs so would need to be walked on lead and not your dog park kinda guy. If a dog is reactive towards him, he will react back so we wonāt be adopting novice owners.
He has not been tested with children, but is quite gentle with minimal jumping so he will be suited to young children 6 and up.
Obedience :
Raz is very well trained at home, he understands sit, shake and he successfully sits at roads when foster mum gives a sharp short whistle and says his name, he then continues on the walk once given the command ā letās goā. This is in areas that have very few dogs
Raz understands the boundaries of the house and has rarely had to be told off for anything !
He can become excited but has rarely jumped on people or guests.
At home Raz is treat driven so great to train at home. Outside the home he is quite distracted
Sleep habits :
Raz sleeps alone in the loungeroom on his bed with no issues at all.
He goes off to sleep easily and wakes up anywhere between 7:30-9 on foster mum's days off.
On working days he wakes when his human does and goes out for his breakfast straight away.
He will happily nap through all the day if his people are home and he is close by.
Toilet training:
Raz had the expected and usual accidents when first arriving at his foster home but since then has had no accidents at all.
Raz has full access to inside / outside all day And night until bedtime and has never had to wake during the night to go outside for the toilet .
He is a big fan of food and has some treats during the day.
He is a big fan of cow hooves which keep him happy and busy .
He takes treats very gently and has never stolen food.
He gets very excited and slobbery when food is around as it is one of his favorite things.
Ideal home :
Raz will benefit from a home with a family that is committed to his socialization outside the home, willing to put in consistent training
Raz is happy to be left alone for part of the day if his family works but then must be included in the family home when people are home as he does love to interact with people .
Children 6+ suited just because he is a larger dog with some strength behind him.
A large backyard with another female submissive dog may suit Raz
No apartment living will be considered
Raz is a very beautiful boy and will make the perfect addition to a family home where he can share all of his love and goofiness and nap the day away surrounded by his humans who love him .
