About Paddy Patterson
Paddy Patterson
Troubled Soul
Paddy is an 8 yr old, 6kg Jack Russell cross rescued from a long-term abuse situation.
He is essentially well-behaved and well-intentioned, however he can be challenging as a result of the abuse he has experienced.
Paddy is a very dominant little chap who wants to be the boss of everything and everyone, including you. Thus he requires an owner who can provide him with clear, positively reinforced, behavioural boundaries. It is essential that his new owner has solid rehab experience with rescued dogs who exhibit challenging behaviour.
It is strongly preferred, but not obligatory, that his new owner be male. Paddy was abused by a female, and even though he currently lives with female foster carers, it has been observed that he has a marked fondness for men.
Since coming into foster care he has improved in leaps and bounds. He remains, however, a challenging case, with much improvement still to be made. Our boy is not for the faint hearted. He needs someone who will be able to keep calm and carry on when he attempts to usurp their position through barking and growling because he wants to run the show. He finds it very, very difficult to share with other household pets. He wants all the snuggles, all the treats, all the toys, all the attentions, all for himself, all the time. Sudden, loud noises frighten him, and he cannot cope with any violence on the television at all. It is immensely disturbing to him. He still flinches when there are unexpected movements near his head. He doesn’t always know how to respond to care or kindness , seeming to anticipate the worst, while other times he will lean into you for snuggles. He is currently in a multi pet (dogs, cat) household with female foster carers which is not ideal for him.
This bright, energetic boy requires a lot of stimulation every day. A stroll around the streets is not enough for him. He would be ideally suited to going to work with someone, especially if they travel around for their job and work outside.
Paddy is happiest when setting out on an adventure. He trots along like the happiest little chap in the land. Loves accompanying you on errands - post office, Bunnings, markets. loves it all. Does not pull on the lead. Behaves well at the dog park, and can be let off leash. Stays with you on a bushwalk and doesn’t run off. He’s learning to swim and chase the ball. Travels well in the car. After a great day out adventuring, he loves to come home to a delicious home-cooked dinner, then curl up and sleep all night.
Mr. Patterson is not suited as a family pet and cannot be in a household with children of any age, elderly or otherwise vulnerable people, or pocket pets/birds of any type.
He stands his best chance of success with an active, compassionate, robust, well experienced, preferably male person/s who is looking for a dog they can make a difference to, and understands that the road is going to be long.
