About Charlotte - Located in St Kilda East
My name is Charlotte but don’t I look like a feline version of Zorro?
I share some qualities with Zorro, I am loyal, independent and I will stand up for myself. I enjoy head scratches and I splay when brushed. Once settled in, I am protective of my human companion, I will sit close by and sometimes look like I’m on active duty, especially while you’re taking a shower! Who knows what stranger or monster could get you while you’re vulnerable in the shower!
When I’ve built a rapport with you and feel confident in my new living space, I am content with short daily interactions with you where I get to play, receive scratches or brushing. I enjoy playing with toys with any ribbon or string attached. I am also learning to play catch. If you tempt me with a toy and flick it across the room, I will chase to catch it or continue batting it briefly. I haven’t quite got the concept of fetch though, so this is a bit of an exercise for my human companion to retrieve the toys, sounds like a win win situation to me. Though most of the time, I’m fairly independent and simply enjoy your presence.
If I feel overstimulated or triggered, I might communicate this to you by nibbling at your hand (if petting), or giving you a warning hiss (I hate brooms!). Please respect my boundaries and read/ honour my body language, if I continue to feel threatened I will try to defend myself. My favourite past times include stretching and splaying across my living space, looking out windows and eating yummy treats.
I have had a complicated past, therefore I can be anxious during my transitional period and need some medication to ease my anxiety. I’ve also had acupuncture and laser therapy to assist me with it. However once I’ve settled in and build a strong rapport with you, I may be weaned off the medication. Building trust with me is the key to bringing out my charms. With patience, love and delicious treats, I will learn to gain confidence around you and loaf nearby to keep you company. You will know I feel comfortable with you, when I simply purr from your presence, greet you at the door and sit in close proximity to you.
I use the kitty litter; but previously had the bad habit of holding my wees. I am currently weeing semi regularly, but holding wees may recur during a transition. I prefer to scratch the carpet, though I don’t scratch often (only when I’m excited to see you). I am slightly anxious during transitional periods, and will fare best with a patient person who lives on their own in a small place. I seem to prefer single female human companions.
