About Delta
Meet the sweet gorgeous and breathtaking Maremma pup. Delta.
This amazing girl is now seeking her forever home and we are definitely seeking a home where this girl can shine as a LiveStock Guardian as she definitely has all the traits to be an amazing worker. Delta has been in care with us now for since she was 12 weeks of age and has been on a working farm learning the ropes
When not in training she is happy to follow you around the property while you're feeding horses and doing daily chores etc . She loves to get involved in everything you are doing and is curious and eager to explore new things . She's overall an extremely relaxed girl for her age which makes her a dream to train
Please see pictures imbedded to see how well she is doing
She is extremely comfortable around sheep as these have been her main training base and she is both polite and calm around our small calm flock of ewes. I have trained numerous of this breed over many years and I have to say Delta has taken to her role like a duck to water. She currently spends 2 x 1 hour sessions off lead a day in with the sheep while we feed them and she calmly watches as they eat and goes over to sniff everyone is ok which is brilliant for a pup of her age. Of course she is not at all ready to be left unsupervised with stock at her young age and she is still a puppy so this training as well as boundary training is very important to continue at this age. Delta has also been exposed daily to poultry as they are free ranging with the sheep but she can get a little puppish around them and not chase but she does like to watch them flap and run, so she will require more constant training with poultry if you are considering her for a poultry worker.
Delta is currently yarded with a 12 month old Male Sarplaninac who she does enjoy his company but is not dependant on him and she spends her working time with a 6 year old male Sarplaninac male who has been her mentor and trainer for her time in care. Delta has not been treated as a house pet for obvious reasons and currently sleeps in the stables on her favorite sleeping arrangements which is a huge pile of hay lol she also does sleep under the stars in the yards on many nights As delta is so young and would definitely benefit from having an older nurturing friend to guide her as she matures we have ensured she has been well exposed to other dogs while in care. She started off her foster journey in care on a small farm with 4 other dogs and then when she arrived here she has been with around 6 other dogs and we have found her to be very social and well mannered around others. She has absolutely no food aggression with other dogs and her and her yard buddy do share bowls of food with no problems Delta will be a good large size Maremma as she is growing just perfectly and at a great weight for her age
A typical for her breed Delta can be initially weary of strangers and yup will bark at them but once she knows them and they gain her trust of they are introduced by her hoomans she warms up really well and will great them with a waggy tail and smile
For a Maremma she isn't a huge barker ad will actually only bark as needed , eg spots something that's not supposed to be there or hears a fox call from across the night and of course strangers but she isnt a painful incessant barker like a couple of Maremmas I have here lol
PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM AND JUNK FOLDERS FOR YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO COMPLETE ONCE YOU HAVE SENT YOUR ENQUIRY
Delta is a lover of food and her appetite never dries up
She is currently on a diet of both raw and dry consisting of fresh chicken frame for breakfast and premium dry Prime 100 cooked mince and veg with brown rice for dinner. She also gets shark cartilage and for training chicken and high value treats
Sleep
As stated Delta is currently sharing a stable bed of hay with her buddy or she will sleep under the stars in the stable yards and unless needed to checkout a weird sound to bark at at night she pretty much is settled all night
Lead skills and training
No party tricks trained in for this girl as that's not her intended intention. She can sit when asked . Her recall improves each and every day and although will walk on lead I wont say shes brilliant at it as she has been on a farm her whole time in care
Social skills with animals
Cats are not a problem as she has been with my grumpy spitty cat so has learnt her manners
Horses no issue as she is living with them
Sheep and chickens as explained above
Weather
Delta is not phased by rain or Thunder storms and didnt even get to concerned with the earth tremor last night
Children
I cannot foresee Delta having any issues with children as she is a very gentle and well temperament pup
Adoption criterion
