About Bonnie King Charlie
Meet Charlie, our beautiful 6 year old Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix. The CKCS is still one of the most popular breeds in the world today – it’s hard to find a breed with a better temperament – we think he could have some cocker spaniel in his genes too.
Bonnie Charlie was born on 20th July, 2017 and is de-sexed, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is a medium sized boy, weighing in at 17kg approx. Yes, we have him on a diet (Royal Canin Light weight care) and he is beginning to benefit having lost approximately half a kilo to date. More weight loss is expected with the continuation of the right food and exercise program. He has an exceptionally good appetite, so snacks should be kept to a minimum. 2 meals (morning and night) with good quality kibble – such as Royal Canin. No chicken wings but larger bones without fat will help keep his teeth sparkling.
He is a real couch potato – takes up most of the space! He gets on exceptionally well with other dogs, he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, according to his carer. He has many of the Cavalier traits – is placid, easy-going, friendly and exuberant.
He loves going for his daily walk and needs 2 forty-minute sessions a day and a medium to large back yard that he can run around in. His home would need secure fencing and gates (colourbond preferred). He is not much interested in toys, but we think another dog in the family, roughly the same size as him would be perfect. Currently he is living with 5 dogs but doesn’t show much interest in playing with them… he just does his own thing!
Charlie must be allowed to sleep inside the home - he has his own bed, but has taken a liking for the lounge as well. Most nights he sleeps on the single lounge chair. Not a peep out of him during the night.
He would not be classified as a barker - although he will alert you to any outside noise that he thinks might be a threat to his territory. He absolutely loves going out in the car, he travels very well in the car, so taking him away with you on holidays would not be a problem. He crates well and behaves himself.
If you think you would like to know more about this special boy, please email your enquiry in the first instance. Charlie is ready to go to his new home which we hope will be his last home!! He has been moved around 3 times in the six years of his life, through no fault of his own, so we will be very particular about where he ends up this time. We would absolutely love to have him living around our local Port Macquarie area, where we can follow his progress. He comes with his own bed, collar, lead and harness.
Charlie comes with a written health check from our vet. Assessment: Clinically healthy.
History: He is on monthly Flea/tick prevention – Nexgard Spectra. Milbemax worming tablet given on 1st June. He has “lazy”tear ducts with very mild tear production occurring – no scleral inflammation. Ears, mouth/teeth, skin/coat – all normal. Has mild “cow hocked” stance, causing him to click his nails on his back legs when he walks on the pavement.
A pet should be for life and you must be able to commit to Charlie for the next 8 years – we are hoping he will have a long, happy and healthy future. Charlie is ready for the next chapter in his life and we are looking forward to helping him find his dream home.

.......................
Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. is trying to expand its foster carer network so that we can help more dogs in need. This is a very rewarding experience and suits a variety of people. Some people, for whatever reason, are unable to make a permanent commitment to a dog, a commitment which can last for up to 15 years. Others use the fostering experience as an interim measure before committing to permanently owning a dog. If you think you could be interested in becoming a foster carer, either on a long-term or a short-term basis, and would like more information please contact Nigel on 6584 4992 or Wendy on 6584 7027.
