About Bobby
Let me introduce a vibrant, lovable, unique character named Bobby.
Bobby was found as a stray and picked up by Rangers where upon he lived at the pound for a bit before being taken into rescue when noone came forward to claim him.
He is a very happy chap and is well socialized with people and dogs. Being a Basenji x he has energy for days, very bright, very alert and has a sense of smell that will help him find so many treasures you never knew you had in the garden. Without a doubt he will leave you amazed by his speed, he is the perfect defintion of a "pocket rocket".
He would make a great jogging partner as there is no doubt he'd keep up quite easily and would thrive with a person who enjoys being active with him.
Though because of his eagerness for adventure along with his speed he would require to be on the lead at all times. Given his breed he loves to chase and will chase anything. He has such a keen sense of smell so I believe with training he would excel ... maybe even Agility training, or sniff training perhaps so long as the oval was completely fenced and a bond with his human had already been formed. He is a sensitive little man so isnt comfortable with being pushed into anything and he will work out what your up to in two seconds. So strategy with Bobby is required.. not forced training.
He loves his foster sister Dakota and they enjoy wrestling, mouthing and a lot of chasing and rough and tumble play. He responds well to corrections from both Human and canine.
As Bobby is quite young he would really benefit from another young energetic playmate and companion in his new home to keep up with his endless amount of energy and antics. Little Bobby is an absolute sweetheart, when he is not wrestling and chasing with Dakota he will literually melt when getting scratches and belly rubs, or just held closely. He just loves to love and he will stay there all day if he could, unless distracted by something that needs investigating or more play.
Bobby has been crate trained though for his benefit not mine. He has his kangaroo hide in there (I have tried toys but they dont last long), eats in there as well as sleeps in there through the night, he loves his comforts so he has his thick quilt and blanket in there to keep him warm and cosy;
This is Bobbys safe place, and as he has shown seperation anxiety he will be placed in the crate if I need to go out for an hour max. any longer and he may panic. The crate gets shut through he day with his prize posessions so his foster sister cant get in and try to sneak away with his treasures as he can get very protective over whats his which Includes his meals.
Bobby will need an experienced owner preferably with Basenjis and someone who is savvy with escape artists.
Being a Basenji x he likes to climb and will work out a way to either climb or bounce his way out of whatever is blocking his way to where he wants to go, he doesn't like to miss out on anything, especially being with his human.
He bonds very quickly, and his human is his everything. His canine friend/family comes second. Bobbys security has to be first to none as he is the most likable, lovable, protective little companion you could ever ask for so escaping is not an option. Which is why it is imperative he finds the perfect person for him.
He is certainly a lap dog no doubt about it. His nicknames around here are Pocket Rocket and little Love Bug, those two names describe him adequately.
When Bobby first came into foster, he had not been trained in even the basics.
He is now toilet trained, (though he prefers the pavement at this point) he would be good with a doggy door as he hasn't yet got the hang of letting me know so the door is left open for him. His lead training is going very well, he absolutely loves his walks and will stand still for you to put his harness on. He requires a Sporn Harness (as so far its the only one he cant get out of) and his collar (I prefer martingale collar) both attached to leads.
If something surprises Bobby and he panicks he can become a little houdini very fast... it is happening less and less as he becomes to know us but that little escape artist will always be a part of his nature.
Being a Basenji x, we were wondering would he or would he not have a bark; Yes, he does. It took a week, but he has shown he does bark. He is not a yappy little dog, but he does have a good bark on him.
He would make such wonderful little companion to the right person without a doubt.
