About Nera - 8 Week Old Border Collie X
Nera is a delightful young puppy (8w at the time of listing) – a border collie mix.
** PLEASE READ CAREFULLY – ALL THE WAY TO THE END **
The smallest and sweetest in her litter, Nera is very petite. She’s definitely a mixed-breed; however at this stage she looks to be predominately Border Collie in appearance with the typical black, medium coat with white socks and white chin.
She’s still only a baby so it’s currently an equal balance of sleep and play during the day. As you move around, Nera will stick to your heels as you try not to get her tangled in your feet. She loves to be picked up to nestle under your ear or nibble on your chin. When tired, she’ll flop to sleep within seconds – in a ball on the floor, curled up on your lap or nursed in your arms.
While she is super adorable with her cat-like bouncy play and quizzical head tilts, she will grow into an active dog who will need ongoing physical exercise and mental stimulation. When fully grown, Nera will require consistent daily exercise - preferably two decent exercise sessions every single day. For an active breed, this is non-negotiable.
When adopting a young pup, set realistic expectations - she will likely dig, chew, destroy plants, and she will require toilet training. A commitment to ongoing training will be essential to ensure her energy is directed positively to avoid any unwanted behaviour during and beyond adolescence.
In her short life, Nera has never been left home alone for any period of time. After leaving mum and siblings she’s been entertained by resident dogs in foster care. If she is to be the only dog in the household, it will take a transition period - and her humans will need to provide lots of playtime and interaction to replace the level of on-tap stimulation with her four-legged friends she has become accustomed to.
The ideal forever family for Nera would be a home with another friendly dog to snuggle with at night and to keep her company during the day, or a human to hang with most of the time.
Please consider Nera’s long-term suitability for your lifestyle and family before submitting an adoption application. You will also need stable, clean and safe accommodation. She is not suitable for apartment living. Your house and yard must be safe and suitable for a puppy now and a potentially energetic, springy dog as she grows. A yard check will be conducted to assess suitability, fence height, and ensure it is free from any gaps or other escape paths.
Fun fact: Nera means “black” in Italian; and “candle” or “light” in Hebrew.
Nera's adoption fee is $700 which includes her desexing when she is old enough. It also includes her first two vaccinations. She has been treated for fleas and worms, and is microchipped.
Nera is in foster care in Mayfield, NSW. Since she is not yet desexed, she is only available for adoption to the Lower Hunter region (Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland and Cessnock) plus Central Coast and Sydney. She'll need to be returned to one of our approved vets for desexing when she's 5 to 6 months old.
