About Benji
*LOOKING FOR FOSTER FAMILY*
Benji is a typical energetic, young kelpie who will needs room to run and have plenty of mental stimulation. He needs two things in life, a dedicated human and a desexed active adult dog (not senior). He wants to join his human in running, hiking, dog sports, training or any other activity you are into, with a few cuddles and belly rubs at the end of the day on the couch. He wants a doggy companion to wrestle, play chase and tug of war with, and to keep him company when your busy doing human things.
Benji is very friendly and loves everyone he meets. He is super sweet and most of the time will sit for a pet (he tries hard to remember not to jump). Due to his excitement and energy levels, he would best suit living with older children who understand his behaviour, or no children living in the house.
Benji loves outings, whether in the car or on the lead. He jumps up in the car himself and once strapped in, just lays there looking out the window. He walks well on lead when focused but is easily distracted wanting to meet every dog and person he sees. He will need more training to continue walking well around distractions.
Since coming into the care of his foster carer he has learnt to sit, down, and wait for his food, and to be settled in a crate. He enjoys learning new tricks like shake and spin, and he would love his new owner to take him to obedience classes. He is food motivated, learns easily and enjoys using his brain. Benji is still being toilet trained and will need you to be patient and dedicated to help him master this skill so he can come inside and be part of your family and enjoy the comfort of sleeping inside.
Benji’s instinct to herd and chase is strong so he is best in a home with no small animals including cats and its best that he can’t see or interact with livestock. Benji will need a *SECURE FENCING* to help keep him safe as he will attempt to climb fences and when this doesn’t work, he will give digging under the fences a go. Meeting his physical, mental and breed needs will go a long way to keep him happy in his yard.
*Please only apply if you are ready to meet and adopt this pet now, and if all family members are in support of the adoption. *
Adoption details
Please note- we do not work on a first in best dressed basis, we assess all applications to choose the home that we believe will best match the animal.
If you believe one of our animals would be a good match for your home please send us a detailed email us with some information about the people and any other animals in your home as well as the type of lifestyle you can offer a new rescue pet. We are volunteerswho run the rescue around families, paid employment and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
