About Meelo
Do you have a love of little cutie patootie dogs and yup this guy is knee high to a grass hopper
This little fella is EXTREMLY dog social and loves to wrestle and tumble with any size dog
Meet Meelo, a charming 14 kilo, stocky little Staffy X we think JRT who’s small in size but big on personality. This bundle of joy loves everything and everyone. He’s always happy, whether entertaining himself outside or snuggling with you inside. Despite being sadly dumped in the pound, Meelo has a zest for life and is ready to share it with someone special. He will not disappoint. Everyone who has met him has fallen in love including his foster carer
This boy is the cutest patootie. His foster carer feels he should have been called Pumba as he’s just like the cute little warthog in the Lion King, full of energy and happiness. He’s always running around with his little tail up in the air
He is tiny and we wonder if he is crossed with a JRT or some other small breed. His stocky little legs are just adorable as his little front feet turn outward. Cuteness overload

Favourite things
Walking, running and chasing balls
Meeting friendly people and dogs
Exploring new places and treasure hunting. If there’s something to be found, Meelo will find it
Belly rubs and laying around in the evening inside with his foster mum
Toys, especially ones that can withstand his mouthy puppy play. Totem tennis is a favourite.
Treats - lots of treats please!
Dogs big or small, he loves nothing more than zooming around playing chase
Interaction with humans
Meelo loves to meet new people and is initially very excited during greetings. He will settle with some coaxing and often finds a toy to present or run around with. When on lead at the park, he is very polite meeting new people and other dogs.
As with all young dogs, Meelo is learning to keep his exuberance in check. He is doing well with his training to sit for pats Sometimes his play can be a little rough and mouthy, so we feel that he would best suit a family with dog experience any children be teens or older.
He loves to lie in your arms like a new born baby and have his tummy tickled. This will send him to sleep.
Obedience / training
Meelo is quickly learning the basics after coming into our care with no training at all. He’s an excitable pup and can be a tad stubborn, but he’s a clever boy and very open to learning. We know this gorgeous boy will thrive with consistent training aided by lots of yummy treats.
Meelo is currently learning:
Lead walking - which he does very well, only pulling to investigate smells or to say hello to furry pal
The commands for ‘sit’, ‘no’ and ‘bed’
Not to jump around on the couch and that inside time is quiet time. He is now learning to wait to be invited up but happy to retreat to his bed
Recall – this is brand new for Meelo, so he’s always on lead unless playing at a fenced dog park
He’s mastered the use of the doggy door for toileting
Not to chew things, hands included. Meelo is a busy body so needs lots of toys around the home to keep him entertained, currently cow hooves, kong filled toys, soft toys he can destroy. He does need supervision inside but has definitely improved chewing things if kept well exercised and entertained by the resident dogs so we are therefore looking for a home with preferably another dog.
All young dogs can take a little extra work early on, but the rewards and life-long companionship it offers make it well worth the effort.
Animal social skills
Meelo adores his furry companions and loves his time at the local fenced dog park. He is so friendly and quite polite on the initial greeting with other dogs, then it’s game on!
He is Mr social at the dog park, and gets along well with dogs of all sizes
As Meelo is still learning recall, he may not respond immediately when calling him back. He does return however, after a good sniff hello or a play with another dog.
When walking on lead he shows interest in other dogs and always want to say hello, even if the other dog may not be so friendly toward him. He does not bark or lunge at dogs, just tail wags
Meelo has not been tested with cats or pocket pets.
Food
Meelo is fed dry dog food morning and night. He prefers his special treats, but these are used to help with training. He also enjoys the odd bone and other chewable treats. He has almost mastered to sit and wait for his food. Will sit for treats and take gently
Car Travel
He is learning that car rides sometimes mean a trip to the park for fun. Once in, he travels well but needs to be secured otherwise you will find him in your lap as you're driving lol
Independence
Whilst Meelo loves being inside with his people, he currently spends most of his day outside where he can run and play. He is quite independent, no barking and happy playing with his toys, but we feel he would really thrive in a home with another (female) doggy friend who also loves to play, wrestle and run.
Meelo has access to a doggy door at his foster home, but as he’s still young he needs to be supervised when inside as he can get into some mischief if left to his own devices.
Bathing and hygiene
Meelo tolerates a bath and enjoys being dried off, thinking it’s time for more play. He has a gorgeous short, black/brindle coloured coat that is very easy to maintain.
His nails may require a trim from time to time.
Meelo has had a few inside accidents, not uncommon in a highly stressed dog from the pound but that has settled and we consider him toilet trained
Sleeping
Meelo sleeps inside, on his bed that is kept in the lounge. He doesn’t make a sound once it’s bedtime.
Exercise
With energy to burn, Meelo would do well with a good-sized yard and a furry playmate with similar energy. He loves to play with his toys and can be seen throwing his toys around and chasing them. He also enjoys playing fetch with his people!
At least one good daily walk or a visit to the fenced dog park helps this boy burn off his energy.
Inside the home
A puppy proof house would be needed to have this boy inside as his puppy curiosity and playfulness can sometimes lead him to places he shouldn’t be.
Initially Meelo was chewing a few thing he shouldn’t but since he’s had time to decompress and settle into foster life this has improved but he does need a busy, active household to wear him out. Stimulation is a must for him. He likes to have a big toy box with variety and be redirected if chewing something he shouldn’t.
Ideal home
Good sized yard with secure fencing where Meelo can run and play
Outdoor, undercover area where Meelo can be kept outside all the time
Another friendly, playful dog who doesn't mind a good wrestle and play but must be very dog social
Family who understands that Meelo is still a pup that likes to chew things he possibly shouldn’t. Lots of toys and natural chews
Dog savvy family with teens or older children
Family with time to train and help Meelo be the best dog he can be
Daily walks a must.
Someone who loves dogs to snuggle with them and able to give endless tummy rubs
No small units or apartment living will be considered
