Barnaby is an adorable, affectionate tiny boy that we’re sure he thinks is a Great Dane! He loves nothing more than snuggling into your jacket and being carried around like a baby.
He is a perfect lap dog, that will happily sit for hours snuggling into you and getting patted and will nudge for more if you stop, or will roll on his back if he thinks he’s going to get a nice belly rub.
Barnaby is great in the crate for a few hours or at night once he settles in and if he knows you are nearby.
Barnaby has been a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to behaviour. If disturbed on a lap he is comfortable on, he will at times growl and lunge, so the quickest way to correct this behaviour is for the person holding him to say ‘ah ah’ and place him immediately on the ground.
Barnaby is good with both cats and dogs, although his behaviour towards them has been varied in the home. He is currently in care with a dog 30+ kgs larger than he is that he gets on great with.
Unfortunately though, he has been quite the annoying pole dancer on the larger male dogs leg. He has also been trialled with smaller dogs and responded the same. The only exception so far has been a medium female dog where he left her alone. With time this is most likely to improve and is more likely an anxiety related behaviour during the settling in period.
The right home will need to have patience and calm, and be home more often than not. He is very in tune with peoples emotions, and can show signs of anxiety if the harmony in the home is unbalanced. He will also need toilet training, and in foster care have been using a belly belt inside until he learns marking everything in the home is not wanted. This has improved in care, but still requires some monitoring. He is in fabulous condition physically, but due to being entire does smell a bit on the nose; which the vets have said will clear after a month or so now he has been desexed.
Barnaby really is the sweetest and most loving little dog to that special person he adores. He can be fabulous with other people if you show him his boundaries immediately and react accordingly; though not advisable in a home with small children.
