About Chiko
Meet Chiko!
Chiko a super dooper cuddle bug!
His favourite activity is laying on your lap and getting belly scratches. If you stop he will give cute little grunts of disappointment and gently wave his paw to try and grab your hand. Guaranteed to make you late for work on more than one occasion!
Chiko really loves life. He loves his food, his walks and especially his humans. Chiko would do well in a home with or without another dog, but he does enjoy the company of other dogs. He doesn’t quite understand how to play “dog” yet, but is learning and does love a good snuggle with another dog.
Chiko also loves bedtime. He absolutely loves a blanket to bury himself in and a nice soft bed.
Chiko is not scared of noises, he doesn’t fuss when the vacuum is on, and he walks well on lead.
Chiko absolutely adores his walk, and will need to go to a home that is willing to include him in their daily walks. He doesn’t need to go far, but had been enjoying a 20-30 min walk a day.
Chiko can get a little stressed with handling, he has improved in care in a calm environment, but will need someone that understands he can feel threatened , and can give him the time and space as needed. He is getting used to wearing a coat and a harness, but he still needs a slow pace to help him realise that these items aren’t scary, and that hands won’t hurt him.
Chiko came from a home with kids of varying ages and he had become increasingly impatient with them and had started to become snappy, so he definitely needs a home with no kids.
His biting has improved a lot, but his person must understand that he needs gentle guidance and encouragement, especially during the initial settling in period. He doesn’t bite for fun, it’s only when he’s stresses, startled or feeling threatened, so with a calm environment and less exposure to scary situations, he will continue to improve.
Medical notes
7 year old Chiko has recently been desexed. He is microchipped and up to date with vaccinations, as well as flea, tick, intestinal worm and heart worm prevention.
His hair is patchy, but there doesn’t seem to be a medical reason for this, so we are confident it will improve by continuing on a good diet, and having less stress in his life.
He recently had a dental and had 10 teeth extracted, so we recommend at least annual dental checks with your vet to keep him in optimum health.
Chiko has no issues with his patellas, and he has had also had x-rays on his front legs to make sure his elbows were ok as he has interesting little front legs, but there were no issues found, it’s just his shape.
Behaviourally, Chiko came into care with some stress related trauma, so in order for him to thrive he will need a calm environment where he can feel secure.
