Hello, my name is Silvana and I’m a gentle giant who is looking for a home to retire to after being used as a breeding dog for many years. Foster mum calls me the big polar bear because I slink quietly around the house and love to sit in the garden just snoozing and watching the world go by for hours at a time.

Maremma’s are usually nocturnal guardian dogs for rural properties but I have not had a normal Maremma life. I am house trained, walk very well on the lead and love being with my humans to give them company. I am a big girl so dog beds need to be super sized for me.

I travel well in the car and love going on little trips to cafes and parks. I have no recall off lead so when we go out to a park you can put me on a 15m lead so we can roam around together. You need to have great fencing at home with no gaps as I will try to escape until we live comfortably together and I feel safe with you. I am very shy of new humans so you will need to give me time to come out of my shell and trust you.

I am very social with all types of other dogs and am very nurturing toward younger dogs and pups and have shown some interest in having the occasional play with them. I’m fine with cats and birds so some fellow housemates are fine with me.

I would love a forever family home with people who are just looking for a walking partner and a companion dog. My busy days are past me so please don’t apply if you have expectations of a busy active life with me. I see myself with a person who is strong enough to help me get in and out of the car and gentle enough to just want me as a companion.
