About Pirate - 8 Year Old Maltese x (Trial)
Pirate is an 8yo, Maltese x Shih Tzu. 🐶. He lives for walks! He walks briskly on lead without making a lot of stops so he is an ideal walking companion. He isn’t worried by anything on walks such as traffic or other dogs. He just likes to trot along and enjoy himself.
LIKES:
• Going for walks!
• Food and treats.
• Being inside and sleeping inside.
• A comfy dog bed with a view to the outside.
• A relaxed, quiet home without children or other dogs.
• Greeting you happily when you come home.
• Back scratches.
• Jumping into the car.
DISLIKES:
• Being approached or touched when he’s sleeping.
• Living with other dogs. But he’s fine with those he meets outside his home.
• Sitting on a lap.
• Being touched on his face.
• A busy or noisy home.
MORE ABOUT PIRATE:
• He will sit and shake hands when asked.
• He is an inside dog.
• He is housetrained and takes himself out the open back door as needed.
• He sleeps all through the night in his own bed in the lounge room.
• He barks at some outside noises but isn't a nuisance barker.
• He isn't suitable to be let off lead in unfenced areas.
• He loves his food and isn’t picky.
• He’s very smart and he would respond very well to one-on-one training.
• He is fine at home alone while you go to work.
Pirate was found as a stray on the street and taken to a pound. No one came to claim him. He wasn’t microchipped so the staff at the pound had to estimate of his age and breed. They also gave him his name.
📢 Pirate is a special needs dog and he needs someone experienced with nervous dogs. Sometimes he can be sweet and affectionate but sometimes he can bite when you reach into his personal space. He doesn’t defend food, but he is protective of the area around him when he’s resting so you need to leave him alone at those times. He needs a bed in a quiet place in the house where he can rest without being disturbed.
Because he’s sensitive to touch it’s best to only touch him when he is asking you to, such as when he greets you upon coming home or when he’s asking for a walk. He’s especially sensitive about being touched around his face and could bite in response. He loves back scratches and being brushed though.
Pirate has low-shedding coat which won’t leave dog hair around your house or on your clothes. Since he doesn’t shed, he needs professional clipping every 6 weeks. This can cost around $75. He is small but chunky and weighs 7.6kgs.
He recently had a dental cleaning and a small, harmless lump removed from his shoulder.
✅ Pirate’s forever home will be with:
• A person experienced with nervous dogs who accepts that he is independent and doesn’t want a lot of touching.
• Someone who will notice and understand his body language and respect when he needs his own space.
• No children under 16.
• No cats or other dogs.
• Full time workers ok.
• Someone who wants an adorable and easy walking companion.
Pirate is in foster care in Belmont, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle). ⭐️ He is only available for adoption within NSW. His adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms, vet checked, and microchipped.
