About Poppy
* Please note Poppy has just been desexed and may not be up to meet and greets until her stitches are removed*
Despite her tough start to life (rescued from an abusive home), Poppy is an incredibly trusting, calm and loving dog, ready to find a family with children to dote on. She is the kind of dog you can take to a café or pub & she will charm all around her. Everyone says ""she's got such a beautiful temperament"" and ""such a cute face"". She walks on the lead beautifully, only sometimes she does love a good sniff and can't be deterred - but she is still a puppy after all! She can sit, lie down, is right-pawed and loves to demonstrate her paw trick at any opportunity!
Poppy loves getting out for sniffs and a play and then will come back home to couch-potato for hours. Her recall is great (admittedly treats help!) and she is getting more and more confident playing with other dogs (gently with small dogs, wrestling with big ones). She always returns to her foster mum, as she can see it's her safe space. She enjoys watching the world go by, and sometimes chooses to sit or lie next to her foster mum at the beach or park and watch the scene for a while.
Poppy loves treats, her kong and bones. She is learning what is ok and not ok to chew and doing really well (she hasn't chewed anything naughty twice!). She is really responsive to the word ""no"" and is trying very hard to be a perfect dog. She is food motivated, making her easy to train. Poppy likes to listen for your alarm in the morning and then makes sure you're getting up with a nuzzle and lick - it's a beautiful way to start the day!
Poppy was a bit scared of males, but has improved a lot - and after a treat or two from them can be found leaning against them or licking their leg. She is very submissive and will hide if she's scared or startled.
Poppy is ok being left at home alone for fulltime hours, provided she's walked twice a day. She actually prefers this to having you come and go multiple times - but this just requires a bit more patience and training. She LOVES children and is very loyal. Her foster carer would keep her - but can see that Poppy would thrive with a family with kids to love.
